Snipers...

Experiencing @DomainOrder 's auction mechanics today for the first time, was actually quite refreshing. Setting aside everyone on here that was butt hurt because they were waiting for the last minute o_O... it was a "nicer" experience both winning and losing auctions (not sure how i'd quantify that though...). I now can't see the results of auctions I was watching, but not actively participating in (winning or losing), so the participants actions are shielded from history. I can see the results of auctions I was participating in, but not the bid audit history. This could leave room for abuse by the platform providers though? (not implying anything untoward about DomainOrder!)

I am finding it very troublesome to actualy change the TAG of the domain that I won.

EDIT. TAG has now been changed. The issue was that Domain Order was trying to enter in my registrant details for me. Being a SMT Tag holder he just needed to change the TAG and I do the rest once on my TAG. :)

Locking non bidders out just because the auction has been extended seems like a bad idea to me. The whole point in an auction is to realise the maximum price and locking people out doesn't do that.

A good auction is a fine balance between best price for buyer and seller. Sniping is a siege. By extending the auction bit by bit you hope to wear the other bidder out or hope they lose internet, interest, etc. I have seen domains sniped where I know the other bidder would have bid more had they been at the computer at the end of the auction but weren't present and lost. By the same token they didn't put in a maximum bid intending to wait it out. This results in one sad buyer, one happy buyer, and one sad seller. By not knowing *exactly* when the auction is going to finish people will be encouraged to at least enter a maximum bid before the unknown period. The result should then be - one sad buyer, one happy buyer, one happy seller.
