hi there,

i registered snocap.co.uk about a year ago and the nominet whois info now displays details for someone else... i did not transfer it to anyone else. i've mailed 123-reg and nominet but have had no reply as yet. has anyone else experienced this? i'm WAY pissed off... only found out by accident too... advice/help appreciated.

bobby

Sounds very odd - please let us know the outcome of your enquiries with Nominet / 123 Reg.

Given that 123 Reg wouldn't be able to effect a transfer (only Nominet can do this), I'm guessing Nominet's reply will be the most enlightening...

bobby,

You SURE that it didn't expire? and then registered in December 2004?

The whois is:

Relevant Dates:
Registered on: 03-Dec-2004
Renewal Date: 03-Dec-2006
Last updated: 09-Feb-2005

So something did happened in Feb of this year...........

This was reg'd after Fanning anounced the post Napster project wasn't it? Hence the interest from the alleged thief, no doubt.

Similar happened to me recently. However, my name and address remained unchanged; only the tag was changed.

My registrar said that they'd received a tag change fax from me [which they hadn't!] and they could not produce said fax when asked.

So, I paid Nominet c£17 to tag it back to my registrar and my registrar promised to reimburse me via 3 free renewals [>£17].

Some strange things happen with domains. We have lost two, reclaimed by Nominet to correct admin errors.

Also we sold a domain to a prolific buyer of high value names, and the domain was transferred as if by magic, no transfer paperwork, nothing. Since they had paid in advance we had no problem with this, but it was a revelation to discover weeks later that the transfer had happened.

Well, Nominet have kindly supplied the information behind this transfer, but I don't think it is prudent to reveal the details here. All I would say is keep an eye on your domains and check the Whois from time to time.

PM sent to Invincible.
