Has anyone experimented with contacting people who spammed you with a pitch for the related domain name?

We get dozens of unsolicited emails a day that have been "targeted" to one or other of our domains i.e. it's pretty obvious what the sender (or the company they outsourced the email campaign to) typed in to get hold of our contact email address.

The spam seems "semi legit" in that it the email provides a contact name, company name, UK address and/or phone number and often also a web address (either in the body, or certainly in the sender's email address) that matches the theme of the email solicitation.

Sometimes I wonder if it might be worth the effort to respond along the lines of "Sorry, we're not interested but..." with a sales pitch for the domain in question, rather than just hitting the "Delete" button.

Any first-hand experience you could share would be great.

Ive replied to a couple recently , one bounced back and the other never got a reply.

The mail which bounced back i suspected the owner mass mails and then the email address is cancelled as the email mentions the URL to submit an offer :

http://gamal.net/offer/3947784/kings-design-net

Another one was pitching a domain name which had the "M" missing from the end of forum lol :

As you own a similar domain, we are emailing you to let you know that translationforu.com is now being offered by our company for a limited time.

It is currently listed at 39.95 and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you are interested in translationforu.com, we encourage you to secure it before it is too late by visiting clicking here.

The process is instant and our website is a completely secure environment.

Sincerely,
Michael Edwards

I often wonder if some of these emails i get are actually domainers who have outsourced sales to get rid of the low value domains in their portfolios of which that outsource then mass mails and spams every site around in hope of getting a sale.

Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure there are some domainers who have outsourced "sales" to some pretty shoddy outfits, given the level of junk mail we get about rubbish domains we wouldn't touch with a barge-pole.

In my case, I was referring to spam about products/services that relate to the domain names we own, rather than spam selling other domains.

For example, in the last hour we've received spam about roof insulation (we own roofinginsulation.co.uk) and spam about invoice factoring services (we own factoringinvoices.co.uk) - both messages were allegedly sent by UK-based firms.

Ah apologies Edwin, Totally misread the post. Admin feel free to clean up my mess :D

HI Edwin,

Yep i have tried and no success, as you can imagine we had hundreds of spam for our DC portfolio.

Selling is about reaching the decision maker and rarely, in my experience, have i seen success in reaching the lower ranks in the hope they forward it.

Imagine the "Spammer" (for want of a better word), is busy reaching out to you and others after "scraping" nominet, all he wants to see is posotive responses in his mail box, yet he gets (as far as he is concerned) spam back, deletes and moves on.

Save your energy:)

Phil
