A question for the SEO experts.

If you have a site that is page 1 ranking for most of its search terms on google here in the UK and you now want to target Spain/France/Germany/Italy

If the site gets translated into the different languages, does it affect your UK ranking? as you now have 4 x duplicate content?

Anybody had any experience with this?

Thanks.

I don't have any experience with ranking translated pages but I would assume google would not be able to see each language translation as a duplicate of the original. The subtleties of language are incredibly difficult to translate as it is. I've used google translate extensively, and if that's where they are at now technologically it will be some time before they have reliable and accurate translation capabilities. Maybe they'll get there one day though...

In Spain 'coger' means 'to catch'. In Latin America Spanish it means 'to f***'.

While the singular of wife and the plural can (understandingly) mean:
La esposa = wife
Las esposas = handcuffs (as well as wives)

Thanks JDubya, I appreciate it.

I'm bumping this to see if anyone has had any first hand experience of this or if someone could point me in the right direction to get a qualified answer.
