Time for UK to shine???

[drop]

having looked over the forums and a few sales threads ### what a load of old crap on here! is it not time that the UK DN business shone a bit more ### there is loads of rubbish spam and waste of time links and posts that must be causing mods and admin a real pain here ###

how about a paid section and a yank / waster section so posts are placed using a vbmod in the right place automatically...

e,g anything .com or any other cctld or tld gets moved without intervention by anyone here, thus all the old crap will not be in the UK DN bits

input anyone?

I don't find many .com or other threads in the .uk sales section

[drop]

i meant in general!

there is loads and loads of crap all over the threads ### not all crap crap but lots to bother reading

if there was some vbmods running would not happen!

[woopwoop]

wow drop, you're getting an early start - 66 posts and already changing things!

I don't think that the issues as big as you describe. Most of the time posts are in the right place regarding tld - but vbmods can't solve the other issue which is domain quality. It's pretty subjective.

I agree that a lot of the lists I go through and see prices, I think 'no one is going to pay the list price' or 'i wouldn't reg that if it was free' - but it's difficult to have everything how we think.

Plus I think there's the issue that the sales forum would be empty is we went with a higher standard of quality. Seems all the early domainers have cornered the market with the very good and very very good domains (most of the generics for sure).

Take a step back and wind yeah neck in!

The mods and I manually move (or delete) posts in the wrong sections.

Persistant offenders are warned and then banned.

Most DN forums have their share of "crap" as you call it but as we all know, what a domain is worth is very subjective.

who here would have valued freecreditreport.co.uk at $300,000? Not many

I am thinking of introducing a graded membership scheme based on, membership length, # of posts and perhaps a payment structure (mainly for new members to be able to sell domains here).

If you can highlight the "rubbish spam" you refer to I'd be interested as I spend hours keeping this place spam free.

That was two usernames and one user I am on about multiple people using one account.

Things can get messy when that happens.

I hadn't seen your post Rob (both posting at the same time i think), I was just replying generally.
That said, what you're pointing out can only be deceipt, bang to rights!

I would favour the forum to only concentrate on the .uk extension. With various sale sections separated out by extension; .co.uk, .org.uk and .me.uk.

The current setup seems ok to me.

Maybe I am just easily pleased

I have sections specific to the UK extensions, I dont see the need to have seperate ones for each type, how many .org.uk and especially .me.uk sales have there been?

I could do away with the other TLD forums, but what will happen when someone here wants to promote a .COM?

Maybe I should make the UK section pay per post / membership.

I'm always highlighting the SPiced hAM button when I see it, sometimes think I'm over doing it tho, so I don't always do it.

Only so much SPiced hAM I can ram down Admin's throat after all

It certainly is helpful and much appreciated when you do! I get straight on it if I get an email notification... If not then it may go unnoticed...

It bugs me that folk list .co.uk and org.uk's together in threads (especially the bulk lists). I have no interest in the later.

I come to Acorn to buy, sell, research and contribute to the .uk extension market. I wouldn't expect (with respect) that this forum to be my preferred choice for "other" extension's.

I have reduced the other TLDs to 2 forums, with sub-forums.

The UK forums now take the main space.

Anyone mixing UK extensions in posts will be asked if they can split them out, I agree its better.

## there you go a good start already, that saves looking in 6 with subs! there are trillions of hacks and mods, hacks, injections that will help with "trimming the oak"

vBulletin Modifications

vBulletin.org Forum - The Official vBulletin Resource!

vB Nova - Free vBulletin Modifications

etc etc sure admin / the helpers have seen most but there are a few vb hacks that really help keep it clean (er)

thumbs up

I feel Acorn is excellent and only requires tweaking now & again as it (& domaining) evolves.

I would not have joined if I had to pay and it would be a shame to discourage new blood. Such a policy could lead to the forum quickly becoming stale.

I have learnt to quickly scan & dismiss what I consider the "rubbish" postings.

[AdminAdmin is verified member.]

The site is heavily modded and hacked already, including multiple anti-spam techniques.

It's invisible to members which is the whole idea.

I know there are loads of hacks I could use but would need to see the benefits of each as I don't want to increase server resources, bandwidth and page load times unnecessarily.

Whatever the hacks etc. of the site, the real value here is the members posts.
