As a smoker with years of experience, I was given an e-cig by a friend... ;) Something quite simple, that looks like a cigarette and has some cartridges to use as you "smoke".

First impression, it's OK but a bit sweetish to my taste. I don't know might be a Golden Virginia flavour. I'll try to get something not-to-sweet-and-vanilla type.

I just wonder, if anyone here uses e-cigs? Please, don't tell me about tanks, juice, etc. I don't have a clue. Just your experience: negative or positive.

Personally I like a bit of tar with my nicotine :)

Seriously though, a mate of mine went onto them and gave up smoking in a couple of months, thinking of giving them a try myself.

Just quit mate, if you wan't to quit enough then you won't need patches/e-cigs

I have been a non smoker for over 5 years now...

The thing is... quitting might be the best, but what about my morning cup of coffee and a fag? ;) Even an e-fag might do...

I gave up in 2005 using a Nicorette Inhalator. I think they recommend using about 6 or 8 cartridges per day and then each week you gradually cut down by one cartridge but I had already given up smoking most days, apart from when I went out on the piss. I found having a pint without a cigarette very hard and basically unpleasant, so tried the Inhalator. Although it looks a bit daft, you can inhale it fairly subtly, and an added bonus is being able to use it in non-smoking areas.

As soon as I tried it I found that I only needed one cartridge for the whole night out to start with. In fact each cartridge appears to run out when you've used it for 10 minutes but it just feels like that because you cant sense the Nicotine any more and it feels like you're inhaling air. But I noticed that an hour later when using it again it's just as strong, and in fact one cartridge sufficed for the whole evening. This left me wondering how to cut down from 1 to 0 smoothly. I decided to gradually cut down by having 1 pint without it, then used it for the rest of the evening for the first week or two. Then for the next several nights out I'd have 2 pints without it and use it for the rest of the evening, then 3 etc. Back then I'd typically have 6 or 7 pints on a night out so by the end of this process I was having the first 6 pints without it and the final 1 with, at which point it made little difference and I was able to comfortably do without it at all. Never had the desire for a ciggy since, so I recommend this method for anyone who finds the cig/ pint combo hard to kick.

I would say that the e-cig idea is a great one in your case. It would somewhat simulate smoking, and give you a nicotene fix. Sure nicotene is one poison, for rather one, than hundreds. It might result in you quitting, but if it doesn't, it still sounds pretty healthy compared to the alternatives.

After smoking 20 a day for 10 years I had my last cig in a 10 box and decided to stop and that was 10 years ago and I haven't had a drag since, BEST THING I EVER DID !

I now think smoking is one of the most stupid and pointless things you can do :(

Give it up mate and good luck 8)

ps. think every 20 pack = 1 domain registration ;)

Cheers, mate! The problem is 20 a day for 10 years is a bit different from 20 a day for ... 30 years :D

Iv been a "vaper" for 2 years now. The wife for about a year and a half. Not touched an analog cigarette once.
You can get lost with all the choices that are out there now. I use the tornado with an lr attomiser. Tobacco flavor juice or cherry coke flavor at 11mg nicotine.
I had tried everything before to give up but nothing worked so I can highly recommend them.
It's basically a water vapor/steam that you exhale after your juice is heated up.
The only reason people smoke is because they are addicted to nicotine and that doesn't cause cancer, its the smoke and other 4000 chemicals that cause cancer in real cigarettes. None of which are in e cigarettes.
Plus you can use them in pubs on "some" planes in bed etc

Drop me a pm if you want any advice.

Nice! At least one vaper found! I'll PM you, thanks for offering!

I think people develop an addict mindset and that makes it hard to put across the benefits of switching from smoking. This is nicely put though, and if people are motivated and follow an e-cig approach, I honestly think they stand a good chance of success. Also, as you say laws are tighening up. In New York I believe that there are new laws about smoking in public parks and so on. E-Cigs are fine to use anywhere.

There are a lot of places in America that are trying to ban e cigarettes now, but they are having problems as they do not burn tobacco or even contain tobacco, but rumor has it that the big cigarette companies have a lot to do with this, as they are starting to feel the impact of these things.

He says while vaping some cherry coke ;)

Discuss using champix with your GP, having used it for the prescribed 3 months I found it ridiculously easy to stop after 35 yrs of smoking .... available on the NHS too.

I know this one. I do actually work in pahrmachem industry and the active part is called varenicline. Sorry, mate, it has more side-effects than a ciggie. I am glad it helped you to stop, but I think a shot of nicotine from an e-cig might be more pleasant.

I guess if it results in him stopping, it works out in the longrun, on this occasion at least. You'll have to let us know how you get on if you go the e-cig route. It sounds like it's the right option for you!

All big industries tend to throw their weight around, so i'm not surprised to hear this. It looks like they've got their work cut out though due to e-cigs being so innocuous compared to actual cigs.

That exactly what I said, I simply don't like chemical substances myself and try to steer clear of anything, even paracetamol.

E-cig: interestingly enough, today I had about 4-5 real cigs, usually it would have been 3 times that by now ;)

I can understand your stance in a way. You get some people who take one medication, then end of taking another one to counter the side effects. The next time you see them they're on about 30 pills a day and look like death.

Maybe talking about ecigs has helped you cut down today, haha. I wonder if they're available on the NHS? I doubt it, but you'd think it'd be cheaper than most other options that they likely offer.

Horses for courses. If the drug we're unsafe then it would not be prescribed nor widely available. Plus I'd rather not have to pay for cigarette substitutes for the rest of my days (nor pseudo smoke).

Rather than diss it as you have (you state you work in the pharma industry but that does not make you an expert on the subject) I would recommend anyone that wants to give up to discuss it with their GP (as I suggested) to see if it is appropriate. Having a choice of solutions is fundamental when searching for a solution to the problem.
