Does anyone else fancy joining a sit in protest against id being needed for transfers? I've started, I'm not sure how long it will last but if there's more support perhaps they will learn that they send us confirmation letters with a little password on all the time, is that really all a waste of money? can't that be used?

They're contacting me on my regd email, how stupid are they? it's obviously me, unless someone has broken into my accounts and they could call, is the person stealing my domain sitting in the house as well?

I find the extra step of having to provide ID is useful when negotiating the sale price of a domain - the hassle factor provides an extra excuse to give the buyer when turning down "lowball" offers.

I think this has more to do with the fact you can now download the transfer forms online - so anyone can fill in fake details.

However you could always give them the id and then ask them to remove it again under the data protection act :D

I think its damned if they do damned if they dont.

Personally I am happy for them to do it, as it allows that extra bit of security.

I want domains more secure, cheaper, and better managed.

ID is good for security, but doesn't make them cheaper, and they don't manage it too well (remember the transfer of domains using any old id?).

I am for it.

There are bigger problems they should deal with.

Let's picket the DRS meeting rooms!

What extra security? I give them id, that proves what? that I've given them an id I could have got from anywhere? That's a point, do you think they'll recognise saddam hussein now he hasn't got an head.

At least they're now accepting my PGP signature to confirm a transfer rather than the ID stuff. If you have a TAG then insist on using PGP. If you don't I guess you're stuck with it.

I wasnt aware this could be done, do you just need to email them a pgp signed confirmation mail?

Grant, I got fed up with the incessant faxes in what should be a paperless world. Just don't include the ID in the transaction documents, then Nom will email you and ask for it. Then suggest that they accept a PGP authorisation. I can give you a name if you need it.

Cheers, I will try that next time - I dont have a scanner/fax so I've been having to send copies of my driving license to buyers with the transfer forms.

Lee - If you make your protest against paper transfers in general I will gladly join in, pain in the ass...

So how secure is that? nominet will see you send a copy of your driving licence all over the country, truly pathetic. This needs changing. What next when biometrics arrive? please turn up in oxford so we can get your fingerprints? No lee, don't be silly, you just put your thumbprint using the thumb scanner on your pc and it's taken that way... it's a waste of 'kin time, they know who I am, they're bloody well emailing me.

I think I did this one through weycrest and I regd wrong details, I'm down as Lee Owen instead of Lee Owen ta... oh well.

Stool samples are on the recommended verification parameter list. Don't vote for them.

Do you think EPP keys will be used for Nominet Transfers in the future?

.NU Domain Streamlines Processes and Reduces Costs for Registrars

"Although ICANN has not stipulated that the ccTLDS must adapt to EPP, the expected financial savings will drive the registrar's demand for EPP adoption by all popular ccTLDs," said, William, J. Semich, president of .NU Domain. "The ccTLD registries of Poland .PL and the Netherlands .NL are in the process of implementing EPP."

Bad day was it Lee? ha ha

I don’t see the problem, it’s hardly a conundrum.

Get a copy of your driver’s license or a utility bill if you don’t drive, scan it and save as a PDF file. When they email you asking for ID, send it back to them as an attachment. No multiple photocopying, no persistent faxing and environmentally friendly! ;)

As for the suggestion of PGP confirmation, then yes great if they change their policy to accept them from us. But until then, do you really want to keep emailing them back and forth arguing the point?? If so then I suggest you have more time then your hands then you’re letting on, dare I say time which could be used to just send the ID in the first place

I got the domain through dropcatcher and it was regd in my name instead of trading as, that's the problem. With ta ID doesn't appear to be required. So I've simply sent them the ta confirmed transfer email I received with several others this week and said there's the proof. Job done or so it should be.

i tried this last night, works a treat, nice one!!
