Thought I would start a new thread for the new season of shows! I would really enjoy hearing what people liked last year, plus it turned in to a place to talk about our old favourites too.

From the recent releases I'd say I've very much enjoyed Frequency and Sneaky Pete. Stand out shows from 2016 have been Billions, Fargo, Game of Thrones, House of Cards and Narcos. My absolute flop award goes to Westworld!

All time favourite is The West Wing. I love political/legal dramas which focus on long term character development. (Likewise Sopranos and The Wire)

Current favourite is This Is Us - superbly well written

"The Expanse" was a lot of fun (season 2 starts soon). "Designated Survivor" hasn't been too bad, though it's scraping the plot as thin as butter to stretch the episode count out. And I always seem to have a soft spot for "Suits" even though there aren't really any likeable characters (which is often the kiss of death for me). But of course GoT stands out - I usually watch each new episode early morning on Now TV to avoid being spoilered by "accidental" blurts in the media.

Other stuff that's more "ongoing" than new, but still watchable: "House of Cards", "iZombie", "Orange is the New Black" and "Z Nation" (some of those are only available to purchase as digital downloads)

Oldies but goodies: "Breaking Bad", "The West Wing", "Prison Break" (has there ever been a cheesier series?), "24" (ah, that was the cheesier series!), "Battlestar Galactica" (the remake)

Looking forward this year to the new series of Game of Thrones and Walking Dead. Other than I've mainly been watching re-runs of the 90s prison classic Oz (if you've never seen it you really should) and binging on Impractical Jokers (the USA one).

Man in the High Castle

A TV series of Len Deighton's SS-GB is due to air this year at sometime which is based on a similar alternative reality premise (Britain surrendered to the Nazis in 1940). It's years since I read the book but I remember it being very good so fingers crossed the TV series is.

A few more, if you're of a geeky bent...
- Halt and Catch Fire (on Amazon Instant Video)
- Betas (short-lived Amazon-funded comedy)
- Silicon Valley

The top one is about the computer industry in the late 70s/early 80s through to the 90s. The other two are both comedy dramas set in the startup atmosphere in/around Silicon Valley. The more you know your computer stuff, the more of the jokes you're likely to get - seems like they've got some good script consultants who aren't afraid to go into pretty specific detail to mine for jokes.

No particular order:
Homeland
The West Wing
The Blacklist
Blindspot
Game of Thrones

On my list to watch:
House of Cards
Peaky Blinders

Just couldn't get into:
WestWorld (watched about 4 or 5)

Just working through Red Dwarf, got the remaining DVD's at Christmas. Still a bit of a Star Trek fan though, tend to watch 1 or 2 per day.

Many of the BBC & ITV dramas tend to be quite good so have never considered pay TV as there's enough on FreeSat to keep us busy. Have looked at Netflix, but as I don't have a Windows PC in the lounge it doesn't really work out well.
