I bought a samsung at christmas and the default sound settings were pretty awful. Having played with the settings over a day or two I managed to get a more than adequate sound quality.

Worth trying before you spend any more cash.

We have a sonos soundbar, has been pretty decent.

Plus you can add in extra speakers, sub woofer etc.. as you see fit.

It's a bigger question than you might think... you might want the soundbar to be roughly the same width as your tv for aesthetics, if so, do some measuring and checking. Do you want an all in one soundbar or one with a separate subwoofer (most are wireless) for proper bass? How many other av devices do you have and how will they connect, you can go to tv and tv out by optical cable to soundbar or go direct into some soundbars and out to tv. I got a nice Denon unit but Yamaha make some good ones (including all in one units). Amazon.co.uk

I recently bought a philips htb4150b sound base, Didnt want a extra subwoofer. The base's have more depth to allow for a better bass sound, it sits perfectly under the telly. It also has a built in blu ray player. I am not totaly bowled over by the sound quality but definitely an improvement on what the telly offers, i am using the optial input but only purchased a cheap lead.

watched mad max fury road on blu ray the other night and was very happy that i had purchased it.
