Is the UK still united if Scotland go independant:?:
Oh no, let's not go there or we could be debating for another 2 years:lol:
Done already. That's probably from around page20...

(the passcode will be activated shortly before the event and will not work before then)
Nominet need to fix it. The form is timing out.
Mark, something involving HMRC would work IMO. Good thinking. Just down to technicalities of implementation I think, but not insurmountable even if part of another security package.
Are you restricting direct .uk registrations to UK-based businesses?
No. Under the proposals, anyone who has a UK address for service – and whose contact details can be verified - would be entitled to apply for a direct.uk domain name.
Edwin, I said "something" - not meant as an all-encompassing solution. As I posted in the other thread, Nominet has already moved the goalposts since announcing the initial consultation (which makes debate somewhat confusing sometimes). From the LATEST version of their FAQ:
http://www.nominet.org.uk/how-parti...y-discussions-and-consultations/direct-uk-faq
So any verification solution that relied on UK-based databases would automatically fail.
I'm not trying to look at the issue in the same way that Nominet have defined it; after all, those are just words at this stage.
What the other thread is trying to do is generate some alternative ways of offering a secure space for UK consumers. It does seem to me that the onus is on us to come up with some alternatives.
Could you just clarify for me who is "us" ?
Those who oppose the proposal as it stands; which I thought was the large majority around here.
Who did you think I meant?
There's very little in this proposal that makes any sense to me, but I do get a feeling that we're likely to see security enhancements in one form or another at some point. It's in my interest to help find the most viable/cost effective way of doing it.
If you sign up to Nominet's Business Intelligence reports you get a good idea of what might be going on. Renewal rates have dropped pretty dramatically in recent months and is now a much bigger influence on the amount of domains registered.
Interesting that back in August few agreed that the Register would decrease in size.
Stephen.
It's still timing out but I believe Nominet are receiving the registration. They need to fix it because it's confusing. Also if you return to the page you have to delete cookies in your browser in order to be able to register again.
Has anyone who has attempted to register not received an email from Nominet with the webcast details in?
Do you any upto date figures please for October renewals and registrations, to see if the .uk proposal has had any effect yet?
