There has never been a county or postal district called Grampian, it was a local government area for a number of years, but the proper counties are Aberdeenshire, Kincardineshire, etc.

UG- Do you know if this is an out of date list?

So annoying that I don't think that there's ever going to be a perfect list out there. Seems like the EU is trying to carve the UK differently too.

Just queries with:
1. London (formerly Greater London?)
2. Yorkshire (North, West etc.) will probably just leave as Yorkshire
3. I guess Avon has now stopped being a county?
4. Aberdeen? Aberdeenshire...
5. Edinburgh?

I'm trying to have 'county' as a mandatory field on a form, hence why I need something for London and theer are a few other cities I can't pin point (even with Google)

As I'm working though a project right now using the above list, I've started to encounter prolems so thought I'd leave updates here. Hopefully with the end result being the closest to perfect as possible - so that everyone can use the list. Below are the issues I've come across:

1. Dundee. County = 'City of Dundee' ? - Added to list above
2. Aberystwyth. County = Ceredigion ? - Added to list above
3. Bristol. Doesn't seem to have or be a county anymore. County = 'City of Bristol' ? - Added to list above
4. Brighton. Seems like no longer in Brighton and Hove, Now back in East Sussex ?
5. Aberdeen. Although widely said to be in Aberdeenshire, it's no longer in a county (I think). So updated to Aberdeen, City of - Added to list above

Postal addresses don't have counties at all, just postal towns and postcodes.

Yep I think this was inevitable. The cities that don't seem to have a currentcounty that I've come across so far are:
Aberdeen
Bristol
Dundee
London

Although I'll make county an optional field now, I think I'll include an entry in the county drop-down list for
Aberdeen, City of (option value - City of Aberdeen)
Bristol, City of (option value - City of Bristol)
Dundee, City of (option value - City of Dundee)
London, City of (option value - City of London)

I'm tempted to leave Aberdeenshire rather than City of Aberdeen because so many people still refer to it as that.

Do you think an address will look silly if it's:

123 High St.,
Bristol,
City of Bristol,
BS1 2AB

I'll still leave the option for form submitters to not select a county, or to select NONE.

What do you think? There's probably a lot of other cities that are no longer in a county too.
