I am seeing alot of domains like ukfootballers.co.uk or even worse footballersuk.co.uk, I always read it as FootballerSUK, but maybe i'm just kinky that way :P

What do you think, is *UK.co.uk cool ?

I think if you have ukfootballers.com and you register .co.uk then cool, its to stop other people but when your main site is .co.uk is it kinda ummmm silly or am i the only one to think that ?

I think it's sort of alright in the UK domain market cause people in the UK are used to the acronym UK. But for someone in, say, sweden, xxxse.se wouldn't be anywhere as good cause SE means nothing to swedish people (well, it actually means "to see").
And something like xxxsverige (sverige means sweden in swedish) would be too long.
But thumbs up for the UK one :)

If it's a relevant part of the targeted keyphrase, then sure. For example "uk maps", "uk work visas" etc.

If not, it does detract somewhat from the pureness of the domain, but case-by-case it may not be too detrimental as long as you're going to be building a site and promoting it.
