I've been looking for a brand name for a new UK site.
I came up with a name I'm happy with and the .co.uk was available so I got it.
The .com is taken by a someone in Singapore and they appear to be a very small operation.
No UK limited companies by this name, no UK or US trademarks.
The .com owners appear to have the twitter account and facebook page in the name.

Do I carry on with the .co.uk or choose something else?

It's impossible for us to give a useful opinion with no detailed info, but all I would say is you can make a success of a site through having a good .co.uk name and marketing it well, so someone else having the .com is not necessarily a showstopper IMO. Generally, it doesn't bother me building an aff site on the .co.uk or .net when someone else has the .com.

As you say - it's for a uk site, It's free of Tm's. And lets face it any pretty decent usable domain is probably going to gone in the .com anyway

I'd go with what you've got if your happy with-it. Its not as if the .com owner is going to come after you "IF" they have no worldwide or UK legal rights

Will you be operating in the same industry as the .com holder ?

Thanks for the thoughts folks.

Yes, but given the focus of the two websites I'd be astounded if anyone got them confused. What's your thinking?
