Im thinking of using some of my domains as a kind of ranking improver for existing businesses.

I would be interested to hear from all you SEO Pro's and anyone else who has already successfully done this.

Obviously setting up a factual minisite on the url and then linking to the business in question is quite straightforward, but whats the best way to approach the prospective company?..and do I just start at the top of page 2 in the search engine and work my way down until someone takes me up on the offer?

Also, what would be the best way to price such an improvement - how do I determine what the industry and page 1 rankings is worth to someone?

I guess the first question to ask is what are you intending to focus on pitching - PageRank, traffic or simply first page position?

If they are big companies, they will probably only be interested in sites with PageRank equal or higher to their own, and even then only if they employ people who know about SEO and have an active campaign.

If they are smaller companies you might have more chance, particularly as you will only need a low PR and traffic & it will be easier to convince them, although obviously they will have smaller budgets.

I would go through the first couple of pages of results & look at their meta keywords so you can mimic their keywords exactly before approaching them (bound to be lots of repetition). Don't see why you'd have to limit it to one site either - may as well make a minisite for those keywords & offer links to 5 or 10 owners. If you say you're limiting the number of external links on the page to 10 that would be enough for most.
