Currently sitting, patiently waiting for Virgin Media to arrive to install 50Mb broadband :p

Any got VM? Any good or bad points?

Working in the industry as I do, I can confirm that early into the new year all the VM tarrifs are going to double. So everyone on 10mb will automatically be bumped up to 20Mb with no extra charge, likewise for those on 20Mb.

That makes my 50 into 100 and me feel like a South Korean but without the bombs and stuff.

VM are pretty good for me, never had an issue with them. Would recommend for those with the ability to get it, to do so.

The speeds advertised are the speeds you get as well.

I'm running 50mb and very happy, only £37.99 and had £50 bill credit when I moved home ( and still a 12 month contract ) :)

I have the number of a really helpful women there If anyone needs it :)

I cant get it that's what I get for living in a very small town lol

Getting mine installed on 9th Dec. Will upgrade to 100mb when its available too :)

Should be done automatically.

Awgthomas - I worked until recently with one of top network people that is employed by VM and it was he that gave me the info regarding the upgrades and its him I shall turn to if I have any issues.

He spent 4 years completing his CCIE and pretty much wrote his own salary cheque when he moved across to VM.

I did ask ask him to increase my speed if I just paid the 10Mb but strangely, he wasn't interested in doing do :D

Who says the uk is behind in broadband Speeds…? We are still quicker than Mongolia (well download speed) Few years on and we will nearly have as quick access as they do in the little villages in Latvia or Moldova... :D

Never had any major probs with them and unlike any crappy BT line broadband you pretty much get the speed your promised.
Only Negative point although it wont apply to you on the top tier. Is the traffic shaping when you download/upload a large amount of data in the day
Im on the 20Meg now will probably upgarde in the new year 100Meg will be amazing for my movie downloads.

Had a lot of initial hassle (installed the wrong speed modem, then the line signal was too weak to support a sustained error-free connection for long) which took several weeks to fully resolve, but that was all sorted out a couple of months back, and since then my 50Mbps connection has been trouble-free and FAST.

I got it installed last Thursday (the earliest date I could get after they cabled the road).

Got the 50Mb service and it's top notch.

No just wait for the ISP's to begin filtering and poop on your parade. I find that my ISP does'nt like certain applications or heavy downloads and I find myself being throttled.

I gave up on VM, the speeds were too restrictive, fine off peak, but slowed down too much at peak. There have also been suggestions in several places of congestions at their LINX ports due to insufficient capacity.

I was a cable modem customer from some of the early trials, but in my opinion when they went from NTL to VM the quality and customer service went downhill. I didn't even get referred to customer retention to offer me a bigger / better package or beg me not to cancel when I called up to cancel!

As a domestic provider for an average family it may be fine, but for a techie it was too restrictive.

Virgin throttle lower bandwidth packages to give top speed to their highest paying customers. At the moment, that's those on 50mbps connections. They do throttle file-sharing connections, but not other types of download.

Hmmm, I think I would get it if I could, but not available on my road. Guess I'll have to stick with the joy that is Sky (!)

Nice contact. Theres a call centre down here in Swansea and I have tried the old 'can't you just flick a switch' with a few people who work there :)
