Ive just thought of an idea for a website which i think is better than sedo for most people.

The problem is i need someone i can trust to look at the idea and tell me if they think it would work or not... or even come in on the idea and develop the site.

The idea is not for everyone, but i think it will be better for 90% of the domain name holders who want a steadier income rather than hoping for that massive payday when your domain name fetches £100,000 (which will never happen for most people)

Ill see who is interested (if anyone) then ill go with my gut instinct to pick out who i will trust with it.

Im not sure but i think ill need a TAG holder for the idea.

This is just an idea ive had so it may not even work, or may even sound stupid :)

No mate, its nothing like that at all.

Ive spent a few hours searching and cant find anything like my idea, im not saying its not already been thought of, but i cant find it anywhere.

My idea is perfect for the average domain name, but its no good for owners of fantastic domain names.

The way i see it is that most people have average domain names, at first glances the idea doesnt look great, but the more you think about it i recon it could be a better money maker for most people and a massive money maker for the site owners. (once it takes off obviously)

If there was a way to sell the idea then i would as i dont think i have the skill or means to devlop the site on my own.

Yeah i agree, it is very unlikely it hasnt been thought of already and even if it hasnt been thought of then the chances of it working are slim as with any idea... good or bad.

Ill probably end up posting the idea here anyway coz there isnt a chance in hell i could do it.

The clue is ... its pretty much like sedo but the way the revenue for the parking and sales per domain are paid out would be completely different.

I suppose sedo could add the choice to there site as another option for there members.

The idea of trafficmonster is that it is a one click install to set up the content management system and then you start adding your content through the admin interface.

Revenue can be derided from a mixture of google adsense, amazon, your choice of affiliate link etc.

In this way you get to build traffic on your domain and keep a much healthier portion of the advertising revenue. Plus you get the increased value of the domain by building traffic.

Yeah, thats a good idea but mines nothing like that, although i suppose all parking ideas have got to be pretty simaler.

If someone wants ill pm them the idea just to get an opion on it. Then you can post back here to say if you thought it was crap or not :D

Ive just sent it to confused.me.uk (if he isnt interested or thinks its crap ill pm it to ya) :D

Looks like it me and tifosi are going to have a crack at it then... which also means he thinks its a very good idea also :)

The relevent domain names for the site have now been purchased!

Will do, im just waiting to see what tifosi can come up with in the way of coding it... if he has problems then ill look into what the next step will be.

I decided that to do the idea from scratch would be too massive a job so i ended up approaching sedo and offered them it for some sort of payment if they use the idea.

This is a section of the reply (most removed as i dont want to post the idea until they have said yes or no)

Dear Lee,

Thanks very much for your ideas. I've passed them on to the director of
operations for the US and UK. We will get back to you on the ideas, though
without thoroughly assessing them, I would have to say that at first sight,
the idea is sound but would probably not work too well in our system.
Domainers are generally cut-throat and in it for as much as they can get
for themselves.

///// REMOVED THIS SECTION (DISCUSSES PRO's & CON's of the idea) /////

We are still interested in the general idea and will discuss it further, so
we thank you for making us aware of the possibility. I'll get back in touch
with you in a couple of weeks with our thoughts on the matter.
Thanks again for the input.
Best regards,

Ed

Oh well, bad news im affraid... sedo decided the idea wouldnt work :-(

Ill come back and post the idea here which i sent to them.

Back to the drawing board :).

Syndicate Parking / sales (just like lottery syndicates)

This facility is recommended to be an optional extra

PLEASE NOTE THE AMOUNTS / FIGURES ARE PURELY FOR DEMONSTRATION PURPOSES.

Syndicate parking - optional
Syndicate selling - optional

There will be 3 domain ranks based on traffic which determins the syndicate group the domain should be in.

Syndicate parking (group 1) - 0-10 weekly visits
Syndicate parking (group 2) - 11-100 weekly visits
Syndicate parking (group 3) - 101+ weekly visits

If the domain is sold the profits will be shared with all the syndicate members (within the relevent group).

Each of the members will get a percentage depending on how many domain names they have submitted.

Each member will have there own account detailing there earnings, domains submited, percentage to be expected per sale.

EXAMPLE
=========

Website has 5 members

1000 domain names in total for sale on the website.

Member 'A' has submitted 10 domains names.
Member 'B' has submitted 100 domain names.
Member 'C' has submitted 40 domain names.
Member 'D' has submitted 500 domain names.
Member 'E' has submitted 350 domain names.

HOW THE PARKING REVENUE IS SHARED.....
======================================

The 1000 domains make a total of £1000 in 1 month.

Member 'A' then gets 1% of the £1000 = £10
Member 'B' then gets 10% of the £1000 = £100
Member 'C' then gets 4% of the £1000 = £40
Member 'D' then gets 50% of the £1000 = £500
Member 'E' then gets 35% of the £1000 = £350

IF A DOMAIN NAME SELLS.....
===========================

Member 'C' domain name is sold for £1000
Member 'C' then gets 50% of the £1000 = £500

The remaining £500 is shared between the members depending on there percentage of the total domains.

Member 'A' then gets 1% of the £500 = £5
Member 'B' then gets 10% of the £500 = £50
Member 'C' then gets 4% of the £500 = £20 + £500 = £520
Member 'D' then gets 50% of the £500 = £250
Member 'E' then gets 35% of the £500 = £175

For the ease of calculation the site owners cut has not been deducted

(although if the sales side wouldnt work im pretty sure the parking side would have worked)

Sedo's final reply :-(

I've discussed your syndicate offer with the head of UK
operations and the CEO in Boston and we all feel that this would have only
limited popularity. As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, the value of a
specific domain is so difficult to predict (who would have thought
spearfishing.com would get $ 18,500 when I would have appraised it at, ooh,
$ 1000! We really believe that the uncertainty surrounding sales prices and
the vast differences that each portfolio can have would make such a system
extremely difficult to implement and would not be particularly attractive
or effective for our customers.
I'm sorry to disappoint you on this. However, a lottery syndicate works on
a very different basis of everybody putting in the same stake, or at least
a stake that everybody knows the value of whereas a domain name has no
fixed price.
