What are popular forums worth?

Crikey, what are you all doing to get legal threats all the time?
Ive had next to zero.
My current ones which earn decent money earn £2.2k and £550 per month and I have a few at a few quid in adsense. Doenst take much time now. Did take a lot of work before 'critical' mass.

I put it in the premium section about 6 months ago and got offered 2k but at the time didnt want to sell.

I've had one or two threats over the years, nothing we can't handle though.

May I be cheeky, how do you get your forum earning over 2K per month?

I could imagine yours generating a few complaints. So one or two is pretty good I would have thought.
Both my good earners are through advertising sales to companies. Both of them are big budget companies who advertise on TV etc so the few quid to a forum is a drop in the ocean in comparison for the exposure and links from a targeted site.

Have any forum owners got any good tips for promoting a forum. I suppose I am looking for something that I can apply to my site but anything you have done that works would be great.
