Hey Guys,

Thought I'd post this and just see what sort of spec PC's/Macs everyone's using and who's still on the old 386's.

I'll start off with mine,

Intel Quad Core 2.8Ghz, 16gb Ram, 250gb, 400gb, 500gb and 750gb hard drives, 2x dual head nvidi graphics with lightscribe dvd burner and lg dvd reader (not for Wii games honest), 4x 19" widescreen monitors. Ah, running Vista Ultimate 64

Mac Pro here with 4gb Ram and several Tb of HD. 23" Apple Cinema Display :D

how many heads you have?:p
LOL!

AMD Athlon Dual Core 3800+
A8N32-SLI Deluxe Motherboard (Socket 939)
Nvidia GeForce 7600 GS
2 x 1GB DDR Sticks
500GB HD
Antec P180 Case
19" TFT Widscreen Monitor

Im looking to build something new later on in the year.

MacBook running OS X and Win XP virual machine
HP Pavilion laptop AMD64 running Ubuntu 64-bit Linux
Old PC World box running XP
Three dedicated external servers on BSD
iPhone with OS X :D

Now here's a thread I like!

Currently running:

Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0Ghz
4Gb RAM
256Mb nVidia GeForce
2 x 500Gb drives in RAID 1 array
Bluray drive

2 x 22" Widescreen monitors... Thinking about a 3rd...

QNAP TS209 NAS Server 2 x 1Tb

Dell Latitude laptop running:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6Ghz
4GB RAM
160Gb HDD
nVidia Quadro 256Mb

Always on the look out for gadgets and upgrades... Not sure what to get next, any ideas? :D

Rich

Most of the time I work on:

IBM PC330
16MB
8GB HD
100MHz Pentium
DOS 6.22

HP pavilion dv6000 on the bed. Haven't a clue what's inside but it seems to work although the power cable needs replacing.

Home-built machine... with every near-silent part I could find (PSU, case, fans, etc.)
Dual Core E6850
4GB of memory
GeForce 8600GT (I never ever game; this is way more than enough to run business apps)
64GB SSD for the system drive
4x 320GB HDD
Win XP Pro

Don't laugh

Windows 98 desktop, but running Ubuntu Linux installed over Windows
About 6GB hard drive
About 250 - 300 MB RAM, not sure exactly, had to take some memory sticks from a broken computer and stick those in here to get it up to 256, as it was only 128 MB RAM before and it needed minimum of 256 for it to work on BT Broadband.
Monitor about 14 inches

My laptop is a bit better, had it since early 2007, but only used it for about 30 hours since then, trying to keep it in pristine condition as a back up computer:

HP pavilion dv6000 on the bed

Mine is also from the HP DV6000 range

I have a 2 dell servers (Seraphim and Basilisk) in my back room, both multi proc xeons upto 2ghz, both with 4 hard drives, 2 small 17gb or 36gb scsi 10k drives striped for the OS and 500gb sata mirrored for the storage, one 4gb ram the other 8gb ram, one is also open case too. I also have 2 workstations around the house in some state too, bits everywhere.

I have a just decommissioned a glorified NAS (Dominion) which is my old Win2k box with like 4 USB cards and 8 external hard drives (120gb-1tb), which I'm planning to move to fullsize tower soon as I can be bothered, but for now its in pieces on the floor.

All behind a firewall / router (Cerberus).

Like dale I have external dedi servers, vps, shared etc the lastest was Hydra with evo http://hydra.3v0.net, the next will be Leviathan unless I buy something else, all of which are more powerful than my home machines and similar spec's to dean's which is impressive.

My laptop (Artemis), macbook (Shitbox) and smartphone are nothing special.

I have a penchant for mythical names incase ya didnt notice.

Pretty good (better than the HDD used to be) but of course because it's XP the computer gets a little tiny bit slower every single day for no apparent reason (I'm sure that's a situation that's familiar to all long-time Windows users!) Really, I ought to do a clean install one of these days, haven't done one for years, but the thought of reinstalling all the extra software, patches etc. puts me off.

Best thing about the SSD: it's totally silent, as in it doesn't make a sound at all. So unless my computer's cycling through a backup or I'm loading/saving data files, none of my HDDs are spun up and it's very very quiet.

I thought the SSD would be slower, I may look into it again for my next laptop, I was thinking more for power compsumption reasons rather than noise, but I guess the noise aspect is good if your a light sleeper.

AMD Phenom 9550 Quad Core
4GB Ram
2x 500GB HDD
64-Bit Vista
ATI HD 3650
Display:
28" running 1920x1200
19" running 1280x1024

I'm starting to feel inferior hehe.

A little off topic...
Has anyone with quads processed and rendered Full HD raw video and noticed the extra power has helped ?

Some of my clients ship me raw hd video on hard drives (hence so many and so many TBs of storage), and looking to get a video editing machine to run Avid on but almost leaning to a mac with final cut pro (ewwww i feel dirty saying that).

Run a basic Dell which I change every year once the cogs stop turning so fast. Saves fannying about reinstalling things. Keep it simple, thats my motto.
