What do domainers do?

I might already know the answer to this but I just thought I'd get some clarification and some extra info by starting a thread.

So how would you describe what you do?

perhaps

1. register / buy / drop catch domains
2. find a buyer for said domain
3. sell on at a profit

and / or

1. be approached by a client who wants a domain
2. find suitable domains
3. sell to client at a profit

What's the recipe to becoming a domainer?

The sign of a true domainer is when you hear a new term, you think "I wonder if that has been regged yet?".

I'd say both....

But domainers also develop their domains.... adding value and hopefully earning money from the domain.

I've read people selling domains to end users. Would these be business owners who want to use the domain name.

Yes, correct. An end user will be a business that can make the most effective use of a domain, e.g. they run a business to which the generic domain directly relates. Hence selling to an end user usually gets you the best sale price.

A bit waffly I know, but "Facilitate the secondary market" probably describes it in a concise nutshell. Without domainers, there would hardly be a secondary market in domain names, and certainly not a significant one.

My definition wot is my own!!

A domainer is someone with a talent for spotting a domain name with profit potential, and exploiting that potential to realise a profit.

Some people turn over/flip domains quickly without any work, some people wait for "the right buyer", some do development to demonstrate that their judgement is sound, then either sell the domain or keep it for steady earnings - but the key factor is that they mostly make income from the basis of picking good domain names.

Other people are wannabes (including me).
