So which one is best too prevent spammers, secure and allows some kind of advertising on it?

or am I looking at it?

You can reduce spam a lot by making your links nofollow. Do what Acorn does as well and prevent sign ups from free email accounts and don't allow links in signatures below X many posts. Not allowing people to have anchor text for their links helps too.

phpBB is best free, vBulletin is best paid. Best bet is to start off with phpBB and then if/when your forum gets popular and you decide to commit fully, migrate to vBulletin.

If your looking for a good free option I'd go for myBB it's on fantastico, phpBB really isn't for me!
