I was wondering which domain probably gets the most type-in traffic and how many per month?

People often post domain wanted ads with traffic but I don't believe many domains actually get type-in traffic unless it's a typo (and most hits domains actually get are from links/search engines (or as I have found because someone is using your domain for email marketing (they use it in the reply to)).

Is it really possible to own a domain that 1000 people per month type in to the address bar looking for the service that the domain describes??

At a guess bbc.co.uk, amazon.co.uk or google.co.uk :)

Yes agree but what i mean is which domain without a branded website attached actually gets volumes of type in traffic?? i.e. a parked domain.

I suppose it would have to be a short, sharp, generic one. Nothing I own then :)

The owner of london.co.uk says it gets about 30,000 a month which I can believe. This looks like it must all be from type-ins because it doesn't even show up when you do a search for www.london.co.uk in Google which is where a large number of type-ins often come from.

On a personal level I have a few domains that get over 1000 true type-ins a month but the type-ins for prime generics is pretty low in general.

Most high traffic names IMO come from being associated to another site, for instance:

Antispyware.co.uk used to get about 1 or 2 type-ins a day untill Microsoft bought antispyware.com this year and started a site on it ;)

i have a site that gets 500 to 1000 type-ins per day in summer Only 5/10% of visits come from google.

thx

I have some 2 and 3 word domains that get type ins. Not many I admit, but people are typing them directly in.

Cardiff.co.uk gets around 6k type ins a month.

It is nowhere in search engines... as nothing much there...

I bet if you check your logs you will see quite a few visitors come via this and this

Lots of people think a search box is where you type a domain name in when you want to go directly to that site

not wrong there, especially with the more 'confusing search engines' like MSN as I remember in one long & frustrating telephone call!

I have several domains over 1,000 typeins per month. It's not a very high number for a top generic.

all the usual suspects i would imagine:

sex
insurance
travel
holidays
porn
etc.

that kind of thing. strong keywords. not all the general public understand search engines yet.
they tend to type straight in the address bar.
