My screen goes White like transulcent, I can still see what is on my screen, images and text etc but it's behind a White screen and my cursor turns into a Blue whizzing circle thing and for about 40 seconds I can't do anything

It only did it about 5 times per day but now more like 5 times per hour, I am thinking I need to re-format my laptop ?

I Googled it and read that my Windows system could need updating but the rest of the results go on about a virus which I know I don't have so must be some technical issue ?

Any ideas thanks

Maybe a loose connector ?

If you login to safe mode does it do it ?

Sounds like a corrupt OS file or driver possibly via an update somewhere. I used to get this on Vista a lot.

I find it is often quicker to do a fresh OS install with this type of problem. If this is not an option maybe a system restore to an earlier time may help.

Thanks for both replies, I want to re-format my laptop but all my photos and videos, some vids are off an old phone and don't work on my laptop so going look around for something to open them and restore them and then put them onto an external hard drive and then I can re-format.

I think it's a race before time before I lose everything anyway :(

Cheers 8)

Done a system restore but same issue, simple solution is to by a new computer, this one is 3 years old and giving up anyway.

How about picking up a new hard drive ?

I generally do that instead of replacing the OS, that way you get to start from scratch without losing anything :)

If you pick up an external caddy no, Sorry the medication I'm on make my mind pretty eratic :(

My solution is buy an appropriate size External Drive caddy, yank your drive out, put it into the drive caddy. Install the new hard drive, put your OS on, then plug the external caddy into the USB, and it should mount as an external drive, meaning you can access it that way.

Anything goes wrong you can just pull the drive out the caddy and put it back into the PC.

Other options are to buy an external caddy drive, for £40-50 and copy your stuff onto that for safe keeping.

Going to back it all up soon on an external drive and then look at my laptop without worrying

Cheers mate

BTW, when I 1st did the safe mode system restore it didn't do much but now seems better after I restarted the laptop in normal mode.

It uninstalled and then restored 3 programmes for me.
