The story goes from Nominet, that one individual takes great delight in emailing them using an automated system hundreds of emails a week with all the 'naughty' ltd company opt-outs...

Anyone shed any light.. :)

You mean domains trading as companies but hiding their whois data?

To what ends is someone bothering to report them!

What happens if an address doesn't validate? How long does it keep trying and does it get released if it's not eventually validated?

If somebody's really doing this, I'm surprised Nominet haven't taken their cue from the stream of emails and set up a similar check internally. Should be pretty easy since the whole database of UK companies can be licensed for a very modest annual fee. Given how keen Nominet are on "Whois" quality, it would seem like a bit of a no-brainer for them.

Just to clarify.. as a registrar will I be able to envoke opt-out using domain manager (be nice), or do I have to use a third party - the nice lady at Nominet I spoke to said it would be a 3rd party service providing privacy?

Interesting ive had a few how much emails for domainprivacy.uk :)

I use DM whois services at the moment yes.

But as mentioned to you before i am interested in using the domain name for the services Nominet are bringing in. We'll see what happens.

Around 3 years ago we got an email from Nominet to say that one of our domains had it's whois hidden when it should be showing as it's a UK limited company.

Our postal address had always been on show, but around 2 weeks before the email from Nominet it turned out that it had been opted out by mistake. This had happened when some domain admin had been completed on other domains the tag hosts.

In short all domains had been opted out, but only a select few should have been!

I phoned Nominet to explain and the nice lady on the other end of the phone confirmed someone had made a complaint.
