Hi

Is there any way of finding out who was the previous/current owner of a UK domain prior to GDPR?

Best wishes
Andy

I am also interested to know the best way of finding out who owns a domain name.

Is there a website that has fairly accurate historical records for a .co.uk domain?

I doubt it as storing this information is against Nominet's policy + offering it this info from within the EU commercially would trigger the dreaded GDPR. but I reckon someone out their somewhere has a record of all last known info.

For the record (as I don't know who you meant) I don't have any whois data stored anywhere except as a hash for the security option in dnmanager.com. Any whois lookups that are performed with any of my systems are used to retrieve relevant data for the moment and then discarded. However GDPR is a farce - it only protects scammers and thieves. Someone has just told me how sedo let someone sell them a stolen domain for 5 figures and then the domain was taken off them and sedo kept the money. I suspect this is due to GDPR. I steer clear of whois information as I guess GDPR is used only to punish the innocent.
*edit* I posted this mainly because people have contacted me in the past asking for this info and after your post I was expecting more people asking :p

What about DomainTools?

Does anyone have an account with them - and provide a lookup for me for a fee ;)

Hi @rob not sure if you are referring to my post? But no I am not suggesting any one person has it just that its a good bet that someone does have it. I did cross my mind a few times about grabbing it myself for my own benefit as I am sure many also had this idea... but ran out of time...
