I'm considering paying the £150 to become a member of Revolution Two but I am no programming/design experience. My question is what skills are required to create decent blogs/sites using the Rev Two themes?
Any help/advice gratefully received.

Well I have no skills, I can't design or code or anything and I put together PCs & Lease Cars using Wordpress and a theme from Brian (revolutionthemes) so they are very easy to work with if you don't mind using an ftp program to upload the files.

No, when I say I am unskilled I really do mean it :)
I paid for someone to do the PCs logo much to the horror of some, the other logo was from a template I had and changed the text.

What tutorial did you start with?

I read & installed Wordpress and followed a post a friend did on a setting up with a checklist of things to do and this other post also helped plenty, pcs.co.uk was the first time I used Wordpress and although I was a bit late to that party it's easy to see why people love it.

There is no special skills needed... you can learn while doing trial and error..

I used the original revolution theme as the base for my business site (link below), and am full licenced for all the original themes.

They're pretty well constructed and easy to set up if you know how to install wordpress.

The uniqueness of each Rev site comes from understanding how it all hangs together, some php knowledge, and css. Admitedly, I'm a fair bit more advanced at that than most.

Revolutions themes are very nice. However, they are not for the beginner wordpress users. They are hard to modify. I would NOT recomend buying them at this point. I use one, and love it, but if you want to modify it a bit, you will have to know basic php, css, and how wordpress works in general.

I decided to setup a Wordpress blog yesterday (Virtualisation), no previous experience with Wordpress and hardly any development experience. Easy to setup using cPanel offered by the hosting company.

Downloaded a basic free template, had to modify it slightly as had a link to a casino site hardcoded into sidebar.php

As previous poster said it's trial and error it's pretty easy to follow, I purchased an Adsense widget for $1 to add some adsense adverts down the sidebar, could have probably done it by modifying code directly but for the cost of $1 couldn't be bothered.

Just gotta add posts for all the notes I've made on scraps of paper over last 6 months.

I set up these two:

TenerifeMortgageBroker.com
TenerifeEstateAgents.net

Both Wordpress sites, zero previous Wordpress experience. Get a couple of good guides and do a shed load of reading. The problem you will have for the next couple of weeks is that Wordpress 2.7 has just been released and the interface has been reworked meaning a lot of the guides you read are now a bit out of date.

I have just started modifying things - widgets, templates etc. It is logical enough but can be a bit daunting - especially when you bugger things up ;)

Thankfully there are millions of users, forums and an enormous amount of literature so you can google the solution to almost anything.

Widgets and plugins are what make Wordpress so amazingly powerful. I have tried many different types - haven't had to pay for one yet.
There is an Adsense widget for adding a quick skyscraper to the sidebar - free to download.
I am after a good mortgage calculator at the moment - all the ones I have found are US ones with dollars and taxes and all sorts. So, if anyone comes across a good Euro calculator - give me a shout.

Best of luck with it.

These templates are quite complex and clever.

I have progressed from editing pretty basic WP templates onto Revolution Two and others. You do need to have a basic understanding of how the template is made up and the difference between posts and pages etc.

Once you get the hang of it you will find that you can edit most sites.

Try editing basic WP templates first before moving on. Personally, I havent paid for the support. Trial and error and Google helps me out!

If you are happy to use a Wordpress template 'out of the box' then it is pretty straightforward to use without any technical skills (just needs a bit of common sense). You should be able to get a reasonable site up and running fairly quickly.

The hardest part for a non-technical person is the initial install. Wordpress have their so-called famous 5 minute install, but you still need to wrap your head around creating the database. Some hosting services will have functions to do the complete install automatically for you and it is probably worth finding one of those or quickly making friends with someone with the skills to do the 5 minute install for you :)

If your host has fantastico, it takes about 30 seconds to install it.
As long as you download and add the auto upgrade plugin, you can then erm.. automatically upgrade to the newest version as well - I think Fantastico is usually a version or two behind.
Also, I think Wordpress 2.7 has auto upgrade built in? cant remember for sure.
