Would you buy this .net (new reg)?

The .com and .co.uk is taken. However, the .net and .org is available.

The term returns 18 million results in google. According to google keywords the term is searched for 110,000 times a month.

Do you think it is worth buying the .net?

The mere fact that according to google keywords the term is searched for 110,000 times a month doesn't necessarily make it worth buying. There are likely to be millions of different terms that have this traffic level. Whether a domain is worth buying is dependent on many factors, mainly how well advertising works on the domain.

Having said this, if I can't register the .com then the .net is the next best thing and I'm usually pleased to see at least the .net available on what I think is a good keyword.

A quick question regarding research for google search results -- is it important to look at results for eg: keyword or to look for results for "keyword"?

The 18 million results I gave above was for keyword - however "keyword" only returns 108,000.

If you mean using (")quotation marks, dont bother, as you can see by your search, no-one else really does.

If it's a word with or without quotations should be the same?

If it's a term (i.e. 2 or more words makes a big difference) i.e. may mean the 2 words together don't make that much sense?

I see your point allclear - it is two words that are put together. However, am I right in thinking that they must make sense as google keywords show that 110,000 searches are done on these words (word1 word2) each month?

If your are searching with two keywords using quotes are very important for accurate results.

search - keyword1 keyword2
will return all pages with those keywords somewhere in the page.

search "keyword1 keyword2"
will return all pages with those keywords used together.

ie. if you want to find out how many pages include the phrase "home insurance", by not using quotes google would return a page with a setence like - When choosing my insurance i always get quotes online for my home, motor and travel. As both keywords appear in the page.
