Would you register .Wales and .Cymru domain names ?

The government has switched over to gov.wales, the various Welsh political parties have switched over. Various government or council run sites are badly serving it up on both old and new extensions, see sport.wales and sportwales.org.uk, and the Football Association the same, faw.wales. Some private companies with a Welsh focus, fbagroup.wales, atlantic.wales.

Given the short time it has been available, there seems to be a fair amount of traction, but mostly for those bodies that had Wales in the domain previously.

But as for insurance.wales or sushi.wales, nah, who would be interested?
 
If anyone has registered any .wales or .cymru through Heart Internet then they should check the Whois. It seems that one I went for through HI was ftr on the 3rd, I received the invoice after payment and now I've found out that they hadn't registered it after all but someone else did on the 5th.

You should never assume any Registrar has secured your domain. Every time you buy something keep checking the WHOIS at the source i.e. whois.nic.wales until you see your name there. I do this every time.

If you have a lot to check then get a tool to help you.

Good, but thought they would auction them or similar.

I thought they were going to be auctioned too. So how will these be released, via a drop we can use script to catch, or a manual frenzy?
 
No, would look too skinny if just mine, I posted everything on SEDO so they are all registered and for sale. If anyone wants to list theirs let me know or send me in an Excel file so I can import.

  • Domain
  • Anything you want to put in the description
  • Sales URL
  • End Date (if any)

It's just WP with a custom skin - tried to keep it clean for faster mobile loading.

Can TAG holders register .wales domains through their normal Nominet system? Could a current drop catching script be able to register .wales for example?

No. For .wales one needs to be ICANN accredited.

Thanks Dave. So which registrars actually try to register the domain immediately as you request it? Unlike 1and1 who may try some hours later by which time someone else has beaten you to it ..
 
If you sign up to the NRS for wales, you can send epp request to register it immediately yourself.

PS Dave, the auction for casino is still ongoing, so your plural looks like money in the bank.
 
I believe that is one of his gems yes.

You can't see the auction but someone just spoke to nominet asking why it was still showing as available and not on the premium list, turns out two bidders are still bidding.
