In people's experience, how long has it taken for your sitemaps to be crawled by Google? Thanks.

Once added to google sitemaps its normallyu crawled for me within 24 hours however might not appear in search engines for upto a week later

Thanks for replies. Have now uploaded sitemaps to both Google and Yahoo. Will be interesting to see which ones get spidered first.

Downloaded some brilliant software for generating sitemaps for Mac - iGooMap - if you need sitemaps, and use a Mac, then brilliant!

Phil - why can't you just automate them? Surely you don't want to manually create sitemaps for every site you own. Just stick a 'lastmod' field in DB and update it when your CMS is used to update pages (if you want to use the lastmod field in sitemaps that is)

Manual seems the hard way of doing it IMO

Probably caz , joking. I've found it usually gets crawled within a day or two, and indexed anything from a week to three weeks later, depends what mood the big G is in.
