Just purchased my first domain from 1 & 1 having previously used 123reg, who don't seem to like the fact that i moved address and would'nt accept any of my bloody cards!

With 123reg.co.uk i can change the nameservers instantly, but with 1&1 its been around 4 hours so far....

How long do they typically take?

It depends. Sometimes they don't even reg the name until the next day.
You can usually set up forwarding within an hour & then change the NS later.

Once the initial set up is complete subsequent NS changes are as quick as anyone else.

It's not ideal I know, but they do charge less than cost, so you can't expect too much.

PS. All domains are set to auto-renew at 1&1. To let a domain expire you have to visit contract.oneandone.co.uk and cancel the domain or contract.

Thanks for that.

The domain is registered in my name, i just can't change the nameservers, which is a pain as i wanted to get cracking setting up Joomla on the domain.

I never get these problems with 123reg, i can only assume 1&1 use a very inferior system....

Now waiting for them to process the nameserver changes YAWN!

First and last time i'll use 1&1...

No 1and1 are fantastic! I have always used them and think their system is top notch!

Yes, using them for...I think over 6 years now and happy with them.

True that things could be improved. For DNS change, I had good and bad experience. I had 20 minutes change like 10 hours wait.
Domain transfer away from them is also a PAIN...

However, all the other features and changes can be done in real time.

At the time of writing this email, I am having problem with their POP server on all my domains...but first time it is happening in 6 years for me.

Hopefully, it is just one off...and not the start of the fall.

I seem to have a problem changing my namesevers, have they changed their system at all...i went to set up my own nameservers and i got errors:

"Subdomains of the original domainname as name servers for the original domainname need a fixed IP! Please refer to the FAQ (keyword: Glue domain)!"

WTF?? Normally, as the nameservers aren't authoritative, i should have to specify their IPs manually...but i don't seem to have the option anymore!
