About 2 weeks ago I noticed all my details filled out when I went to reg a domain at 123-reg and thought - Strange, paid for the domain and looked at my account details.

They had added my debit card details to my account / saved them to auto renew and pay for any domains coming up for renewal.

NOT HAPPY

Called them and asked why has this happened? Was told I MUST have gone in added my details and saved it. Thats absolute Bollocks but hey I said remove them and this had better not be an on going thing or to be repeated.

Tonight gets an email invoice thanks for renewing your domains with 123-REG Blaa blaa blaaa.

Shot over to my account and AGAIN the gits had harveted my card detilas and added them to my account to auto renew any domains/hosting/servers coming up for renewal.

SO............

  • Who's got an account with them?
  • Check your personal / payment details have they got your card details?
  • Has it ever happened before to you?

Monday morning for 123-reg will be a grey one for them

i always delete my card details with them after i have used them.
i noticed this a while back...not good

How can you do that?

They only way to change it would be to put another card in or to call them to ask them to remove it.

Unless you know different! ;)

you can just remove your card details, i think its update payment details or somthing

Nope defo can't do it, you only can get rid of card details by replacing it with another vaild one. So in affect you can't without calling 123-reg up.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

thats bizzare, they must have changed it, i just checked mine and i have no card details saved at all

ok i am going to reg 2 names, back in a min to let you know :D

Any excuse to reg a few domains LOL

I have a sneaky feeling looking at my invoices it's when I have renewed a service or domain! ;)

your right, just purchased a couple of names and cant delete the details.....hmmmmmmm:confused:

Imagine the guy down at your local take away making details of your card and keeping it for next time you come in, what's the difference?

Bad practice in my opinion

If you want to repeat renewals or payments like in Car Insurance, Loan Payments, etc they take direct Debit which is agreed on by you.

Your local take away or domain registar takes an order for a 12" and chips or a domain name can't think I'll keep his card details (without consent) and just use them next time he orders a Kebab or a for a domain that wants renewing!

I like to know the legal side to this as I haven't agreed, ticked any boxes signed any forms to say use my card for any purpose to do with my account.

So Boxerdog when you have a renew coming up, they will be renewed for you like it or not!

@ Andy, there is a part in the 123 control panel where you can cancel any renewals that are listed as needing renewing, where it says:

Domain renewals
Allow expiry

Click the "allow expiry" link, tick any that are listed which you don't want renewed and it will cancel them.

This is from 123-reg's t's and c's

"6.8 Where the Client authorises payment of any of the Fees by credit and or debit card then 123-reg may deduct other amounts becoming payable to it under the Agreement from that credit or debit card without obtaining additional authorisation from the Client. For the avoidance of all doubt the Client must have an active credit or debit card stored on 123-reg's systems for the duration of the Agreement."

You purchase a 2 year term on a domain not an ongoing agreement.

Chargebacks through the bank will get the to stop imo.

Seen that but shouldn't have to tell them that I don't want to renew so they dont use my card. Thanks though ;)

I'm guessing thats for monthly hosting and alike so people dont make one payment and do a runner, not a 2 year one off reg of a domain. I have been ytoldal so I don,t need a card active to keep my account ok under t & c,s

Anyways off to bed, fed up, feel crap and it's bloody Monday tomorrow. :(

If they are retaining card info then they should be PCI DSS compliant, don't think your local kebab shop would be ;)

It is a bit shifty however with a user not being able to delete their card details, especially if there is no contractual recurring fee involved.
