I'm not sure how easy they would be to rank locally though. Also, most people will be unaware of the .co extension.

would you risk it i have found a domain with 12000 exacts with.co
and thx for the replies

Are you looking to resell the domain or develop it?

Just take a look who owns g.co, there is value in .co IMO, just do your homework and don't get carried away.

Well, I am of the opinion that the .co extension could start to develop and become interesting, but I only own a handful, one of which is lens.co. I think this could be quite an exciting name for when technology is developed to create displays inside contact lenses, e.g. I could see a company branding themselves as "lens.co".

I would be careful about rushing in to any extension, just watch the market and see how sales are going. I like .co because of it's simplicity and the fact that it could stand for "company", but I'm not going to buy too many, I'm just going to wait and see.

Overstock.com has re-branded it self as O.co so they obviously think the .co extension is good, I personally think the .co extension is great if you want to create a brand and develop a site but I place very little value in selling them un-developed at the moment.

It blamed the falling revenue on a decrease in promotions but admitted "our current efforts to rebrand ourselves from Overstock.com to O.co may have contributed to the decline.

then that sort of says it all, if a big company like overstock.com can't get the .co to work for them its gonna be even harder for anyone else.

.CO TLDS Been around a while how are your developed sites ranking?

Hi,
Just wanted to see how people were getting on with there .CO Tlds if anyone has developed any sites and how there ranking?
I know you’re either a lover or a hater but I’ve been reading a few threads recently and it’s still undecided but at the same time the haters are the same people that haven’t developed any
Obviously Google have stated that they will rank as well as a .com
Geo tagging
Sedo annual domain market study has suggests a strong future
I personally think they have their place over other extensions
I have a few that are ranking well, just wanted to see how other domainers were doing?

guaranteedvanfinance.co PR1 for the key words
wagedayadvance.co PR1 for the keywords
and a few more that are doing really well

Also...
Exact match domains, Google stated they were turning the dial down on these anyone noticed much difference? Also do they really hold As much weight today?
Any thoughts would be great.
Thanks
Stuart

The above thread will probably get a bit lost now it’s been moved here but..

In my opinion the .co's are probably no worse than a lot of other TLD's and i think they will do well with the geo tag. My first .co has just gone PR1 on Bing vanfinance.co for the same keywords.

My only real concern is the fact that a lot of .CO's have been brought as exacts if it’s true that Google have turned the dial down on these domains then they probably are pointless as you could get any name ranking if your content is good enough, But then again reading dozens of threads there’s mixed messages whether people have seen any difference with exacts, so leaves me a little confused

I find .CO is a valid alternative to .com from a branding point of view and will be gaining value in the future. Add to this that TLDs are no longer important in Google’s eyes, in fact Big G only distinguishes between non-geotargetable ccTLDs and gTLDs (.com and geotargetable ccTLDs like .CO fall into this category). And yes, .COs can rank on first page in searches with hundreds of millions of results: search for Domain Security and Car Games.

regarding reseller market - it's a bit of a mixed bag.

i've sold a few on the forums for 500-900 and then had a three letter dictionary word .co picked for the recent sedo auction and it only went for 100 (that's only 50 after commissions!!) so go figure :)

I’m in agreement from my own personal experience with most of my domains / websites being .co and as longs as you brand it short for company it does become memorable and I’m also in the thinking they will grow in strength
Obviously being a newbie to domaining and i understand domainers have seen a lot of TLDs hyped to be the next big thing come and go but just maybe the .co is here to stay.

So hypothetically a .me could perform as well as a .co.uk so would you assume that like Google other search engines will adopt geo tagging as well? As it will obviously over time give the country code less meaning and inevitable in a few years the domain market will be a very different place especially with the supposed turn dial turned down on exact match domains?

Only a small set of ccTLDs can be geotargeted (.CO, .TV and .ME and a few others) out of 200+ ccTLDs, so I'd say "classic" ccTLDs are still the vast majority. Anyway .CO is the only one that can be used for commercial purposes (.TV and .ME are great TLDs but limited to their niches).

This is what makes Acorn the hub of learning,, thanks for clearing that one up :)
