Advice please , Buying a .co.uk via Paypal around £900 is it a safe way ?

Hi , I have contacted the owner of a domain name they have agreed to sell the domain after a bit of haggling , they said they can invoice me via paypal , clearly stating purchase of "domainname".co.uk to be transfered via nominet .

I have not yet had the invoice , but I was wondering , if the seller did not actually supply the domain name in the end and decided to keep the domain name and my funds.....can I make a successful claim via Paypal for the return of my funds ?

Just asking out of peace of mind, £900 for me is a lot of money , if it had been a £50.00 domain name , I might not of asked..

I doubt Paypal will protect you in such instances, so there is risk involved, but there is risk with most payment systems if you don't know who you are dealing with.

Did you contact the owner directly? If so, do you know if they are a domain investor? If so, you may wish to mention who they are (or PM if you wish) so you can be given feedback. A few between us have likely done deals with 95% of domainers, so good or bad, we'll know if we'd trust them ourselves.

All transactions for digital good ive disputed or been in dispute with the buyer almost always wins unless the seller can provide solid proof of holding up their end of the deal, in this case confirmation from nominet I would think. That being said as a buyer you probably have more cover with paypal than you would just sending a payment via bank transfer because once money has left your bank account.........its gone and much more long winded to get it back.

Obviously paying via credit card gives you added protection, but paying via creditcard..........via paypal and doing a charge back will result in your paypal account and future accounts being locked as paypal don't like you going about their heads.

The "safe" way of doing it would be escrow but then you have to decide who pays the fee's, personally anything under £1500 I consider escrow to be more of a ball ache than a help. Swings and roundabouts I guess.

I've not dealt with Jude, but I'm sure someone here will have; they have quite an extensive portfolio.

The seller is very reputable. I can understand you want an invoice first its good practice for any level of sale.

Also it often seems like there is no sense of urgency on the sellers part when completing on a domain sale, as what is large chunk of cash for 'us', is sometimes hardly worth the effort to make an invoice and logging on to Nominet and doing a transfer for others (not this seller).
