I have a WP site and sites been fine for last 6 months, but in last week it keeps going to a internal 500 error, if I then go and delete the .htacess file the site pops back up, issue is it regenerates this file every few days so then site goes down completely!

I contacted my hosting and they said could be dodgy file in the wordpress install but I've looked and nothing obvious....

Anyone an expert and can take a look ?

I had something similar to this happen to me, but it would actually stop my visitors from registering (Would keep turning the allow registration option off), This was happening on a daily basis and as i was using it as a directory was a major problem!

I tried reinstalling the script and I even spoke to the creator of wp theme i was using but they too didnt understand it. In the end i made a php script which would run each time a page was loaded to change the setting back to allow registration.

To this day, i still dont know what the issue is/was.

What do the error logs say?

You could put 'display_errors = On' in your php.ini file and it should give you a more descriptive error.

Are you using a security plugin such as Better WP Security? It has been known to cause this problem
