Not sure if this is a scam or genuine, I believe it's probably the former. Anyone got any thoughts?

Hello,

Please send me price for your domain.

We are very interested in this name.

Did you get offers from other people already?

Our company develops client-server systems ( MS SQL/ Visual C++ ), so investing
in domain names is not my main business.

Looking forward to do business with you.

Best regards,

EDIT:
BTW, the email was sent from a operaen.com... parking page!

James.

"Looking forward to do business with you." should be "doing". Probably your domain name is on hold or about to expire so they check whether they have to follow with drop catching or not.

in domain names is not my main business.

any email that contains that seems to turn out to be a scam. you'd have thought the scammers would have got wise to that by now seeing as there is no reason to include it.

James, just out of interest have you just listed the domain in question anywhere for sale ?. Reason I ask is that exactly same type of email came to me on 2 names when I had listed them for sale. Place begins with "s".

Not sure what in that email could be a scam, I'd respond and see what they say, but don't go any further than that.

I've recently switched the domain from "s" parking to "n" parking, whilst at "n" parking I received the email!

The reason I suspected it to be dodgy was the email address - [email protected] - operaen.com looks like a parking page to me.

Regards, James.

SNAP !! Exactly the same with myself . I thought there was a pattern to it as I got 2 of same emails after had listed on S but changed name servers to ND. My guess ?. Internal mail from S.

What he does is give you an affiliate link to a appraisal site then you have to pay $200 then he says he no longer wants it. I got the email as soon as I put my domain name on this site.

What are you smokin'

Never heard of "I want an Appraisal done"

It's not half as strong as what you're smokin, there's nothing in the email that suggests they want an appraisal.

It costs the owner nothing to reply with a price. If the response is for the potential buyer to request an appraisal then you can make your own judgements from that and delete the email.

I've had several 'odd' approaches that have gone on to make good sales, I'm glad I didn't ask advice here before responding.
