Been playing with the DAC

Hi all, Iv been tinkering with stuff and manged to get some results.

These are times are the total for sending and receiving.

Time to send login and get a response from the DAC varies a lot. I'm guessing its all to do with what the traffic is like at the time of the request. The Best time I am seeing is 2.8ms and worst is around 4ms

Once logged in I ask for my usage report. This is quicker as the connection has been made, I am seeing 1.9ms - 2.3ms

Just wondering.. is this the norm? Don't be shy to reply with yours, its only numbers...

Im not a member but if you want I will ping it from a couple of different servers/locations and tell you what timings i get ? What IP / Address is it.

Using the address in the other thread the best ive got is below so pretty much the same as you i think. I believe that server is based in Reading so fairly close to Nominet . Im just guessing though, i don't even know if that info is helpful

Hi Adam the address is dac.nic.uk but ICMP (Ping) is disabled.
A trace route would work..

Pinging Nominet via traceroutes etc only reach the border router for Nominet, so the results are worthless. There is a better method (used plenty of times to investigate which servers/hosts are worth trailing), but I won't be sharing that sorry . Lazarus is using his DAC connection to get responses to his commands which is of course most accurate. I won't comment on his speed of response and I doubt anyone else would either.

Ahhhh I make it no secret the world of DAC is something I know nothing about lol. I didnt think anyone else would post numbers either so figured id try and help blindly lol

Ping and average times are not the most important things... look at routing and hops

Correction. I have noticed a bug in my code. "or more of how I had converted microseconds to milliseconds to seconds"
DAC Login time is in seconds. DAC query is in milliseconds. Sleep...
