In all seriousness... yesterday I blazed away at 16x sec for the final third of the day, I didn't see a single 'N' response for three drops, missed every single one of 'em. Definitely something funky going on with the DAC and / or EPP.

When Giraffe dropped 2100 three letter .uk with ZXQ...

BHAYDOM was able to scoop up 743 of them

So @Hay rather than bitching....

I’m wondering how this is technically possible using one tag , one dac , one epp connection

Is there something we are missing with the delayed DAC ? Scanning more names at once ?

And the bitching starts again.... same shit... different day :)

Surely this is not the response one would expect from someone that was innocent...

I rest my case, your honour...

This system of releasing the UK's domains is a disgrace.

You complain about competitors playing the game, but the main problem is the game itself. It's chaotic, and if people can somehow take advantage of that chaos, maybe don't bitch.

At the Nominet meeting we both attended, super-whois, I backed up the paper I'd presented to the Nominet team a few weeks before: a system that would end all this kind of controversy and claims and counter-claims.

Until Nominet develops that rational system for the release of expired domains, a system that is open to all, including the general public, go ahead and argue on.

I think @Hay 's success is as weird as f*c* but if he's worked out a way of getting that success, and Nominet don't object, then please, he's exploiting his opportunity, just like others here would.

I don't think we should create a hostile environment here for other members of this forum. That's a bit like sour grapes. Which person would not nab all the best domains they wanted tomorrow if they could? I have a personal view on this specific matter because I've been monitoring it since February, but I'm not going there.

This chaotic, shambolic method of domain release needs radical change, not just tinkering at the edges. Hopefully that's why Nominet are delaying decisions. They need to consider what's good for their reputation, because at present this system taints their brand.

Best of luck to all of you as you attempt to play the system. It's competitive. And in the domain world, surely by now you know the oversight tends to be pretty laissez-faire. It's a playing field for laissez-faire capitalism, and frankly, if you discover exploits, you maximise your chances, and good luck with that!

Thankfully, there are some really decent people here at Acorn, and people whose goodwill you can trust.

But this is a poacher's game.

im surprised you dont give your selves a headache, you constantly talk shi*t about domains caught but always forget to add the domains missed :) (Warrior.co.uk, Dam.uk, Rdd.uk ect ect ect

Hmmm.... I'm not sure that comment exactly promotes 'Peace', @Hay... I was trying to defend you from forum unfriendliness, not sure calling people 'greedy' really helps your case. Also, you weren't too happy back in the day, when an alleged Bulgarian cartel was playing the system. You interestingly went out of your way to draw attention to them, but they saw a way to get loads of domains too. This whole system, which Nominet presides over, is really weird and a shambles. Ordinary people don't get a look in, and this is UK domains we are talking about, part of the UK's infrastructure. I've known all along (and I've been in this for over 20 years now) that it's kind of wild west frontier stuff, where anything goes if you can get away with it. In a way, I like that, because it's an aspect of the internet that appeals: its freedom. But in terms of fairness: there IS no fairness in the way expired domains get released. It's a poacher's game and many people (with some exceptions like Aaron) just grab what they can get. The 'rules' are there for people to game if they can. Obviously.

Meanwhile, on this forum, there are plenty of very nice people, and I think it's a shame when people get narky.

I'm new to catching but I love threads like this, gives us newbies a bit of insight into how the big boys & girls operate. I do like a challenge too and there's nothing better than finding a legal flaw. It's just like any game.

Kudos!

Why has this system of releasing expired domain names only become shambolic, disgraceful etc recently?

So if all the top dozen catchers perceive themselves as getting a fair crack it's no longer shambolic despite average Joe wanting in standing no chance?

Whereas if the elite catchers discover that one amongst them is super elite and catches more than their fair share, in the eyes of their most direct rivals, then it is shambolic?

Is this the argument?

And let's say changes are made. To change something so drastically as is being proposed is to admit the previous thing was wrong/flawed/not fit for purpose. Does that mean catchers who've missed out can form a class action for the last 2 decades of domain drops that have been totally gamed by an elite few specialist programmers exploiting a known flawed system?

Just asking for a friend.
