Been doing some investigating, and a verisign approval costs £19 a month - will be adding it next year to one of sites to test.

Yes I have the verisign seal on a couple of my sites, and it shows in the google results as trusted site which i guess helps. A worthy investment.

Do you mean that green circle with 'OK' that shows when the user has Norton installed?

You can actually get your site checked for free. Just find your site, if the circle is grey with a '?', click it, find the "site owner" link under the graphic on the left, and follow the instructions to submit your site.
