Other forums have them, then you can see who is being the most constructive and helpful.

Can we also have a dislike button to :) Or even post star ratings.

That way, if someone posts a load of rubbish all the time, you can see what the community feeling is about there postings :)

Xenforo have a great plugin for doing it................. :p

I actually agree with this, the "old" post thanks hack as its called on vbulletin.org is the one you should go for though.

This will give you a bit of future proofing over other newer models like the ones from dragonbyte tech which are garbage and have too much bloat in my opinion, another reason id use the old one is because the old Post thanks hack imports with no problems along with existing reputation if you do ever choose to migrate to xenforo.

Adding the post thanks hack, Paul M's Unread Posts and New Reputation Comments is a nice little combination which encourages interaction with members, notifies them of someone liking/thanking their post or adding reputation. It may seem a bit school boy like but it does actually encourage activity.

Like Spider said the "Post ratings" for xenforo is probably one of the best addons to help with community spirit.

Edit these are the two id recommend if you choose to do it :

https://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=168303

https://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=165673

Depending on what versions your running and what security patches you have applied you might need to look for different versions.
