Anyone else seen the TV ad blitz from these guys?

Pretty poor brand in my eyes - and redirects to autoescape.co.uk in the UK

I wonder how much traffic Doug is picking up from their ads?

From memory wasn't it 'Rentalcars.com', not CarRentals...

Shows how well the brand works :D

Two reasons why i remembered it...

1. It's a url and i take note of most urls advertised on TV, billboards & flyers etc.
2. I thought along the same lines as you, lol, as in they will leak traffic to Doug.

I feel most people 'as like you did' will think 'Car Rentals' which is nice for the likes of Doug when the real term is 'Rental Cars'.

Both lovely names though > CarRentals.com or RentalCars.com

I would use the terms in the following context...

Do you know of any good Car Rental Companies? I would never say... Do you know of any good Rental Car Companies.

However, i would say.... I have a nice Rental Car :) But not say... I have a nice Car Rental

If i had a choice i would be opting for CarRentals.com over that of RentalCars.com

I wouldn't use either. I would say "do you know any good car hire companies" and "I hired a nice car."

I find 'rental' more American...?

I totally agree I would say exactly the same 'car hire companies'.

I should have said that i was only referring to 'car rentals' and 'rental cars' when giving my examples.

This roles off the tongue nicely.... Hireacar.co.uk :p

I saw it. It was RentalCars.com advertised, but I remember it as CarRentals.com.

It feels wrong to say it chaps, but this is why I have now gone off generic domains, especially if you are spending a lot on advertising. It would be better to think of something that could be strongly branded, i.e. appeal to human interest and memory abilities.

As a domainer, I am glad to see them using the name, but feel sorry that they are likely to be losing traffic to CarRentals.com.

From a purest point of view I prefer carhire.co.uk, whether its the *best* search phrase etc or not, it just sounds correct for the UK, everything else is just a poor man's alternative, *that* does not mean the other alternatives won't suffice to become a successful online business with enough cash and seo injection.

An obvious but great thing about names like carhire.co.uk (I often take this into consideration when buying single words) is that you can't pluralize it, - it is what it is.

I recently bought the domain HIRE.CAR but passed on HIRE.CARS as that doesn't work for me - but I think "rental cars" does work though.

"hire car" doesn't have as high a search volume as "car hire" but I like the domain and think it works at a brandable level as well.

What do others think of the .CAR, .CARS and .AUTO gTLD in general?

Both rental.car and rental.cars are registry reserved presumably for auction at a later date...

ha ha

Not complaining:)

We know the rentalcars guys well and have done for years....they are now global brand, hence the words rentals is more powerful. They are part of booking.com now. They also bought some of those rentalcars.xx domains from me:)

Carrentals.com is owned by expedia who run autoescape in Europe

Expedia and Booking do now like each other in business terms:)

I am more than happy they keep doing TV ads:)

can't they just punt a DRS down the line under the fact its 'confusingly similar'
