Clever way to gain an edge

Just had a PING moment to why people who are catchers leave their own decent domains till the very last minute to renew.

If others THINK they may have a chance at bagging a decent catch and they channel resources into catching a domain The owner will be just renewing it will have a better chance at other domain catches on that day.

I know it can work both ways but just a thought

and hope you get my thought!

I agree - to some may definitely occupy their time/resources away from other upcoming drops, good thought

Yup, known tactic - Many do it all the time, domains go way beyond supposed 'drop date'

See where you're coming from, although don't recall seeing any renewals from well known catchers taking place on the actual drop day (may be wrong). If they are renewed the day before then it won't affect the valuable DAC resources.

Of course there are other tag names where domains never drop due to the way invoices are paid (I think that's right anyway) and therefore stay suspended through the drop day. I imagine most people familiar with the names won't bother allocating any resources to them.

Would imagine most catchers will have something in place to remove renewed domain names from the days "to-catch" list.

An option for leaving domains to the last minute, all users looking at droplists will see the domains and may even contact the current owner to buy it from them. Just another way to get domains under peoples noses.
