Hello

Looking for a dedicated server advice, I am on shared hosting platform and I think it is effecting the performance of my sites, I will require SSL certificate and cpanel due to my ineptitude in dealing with anything techy related...

thanks in advance.

Hi

Do you know what spec server you will need? If speed is an issue you could go ssd?

If your on shared at the moment and your only concern is website speed and not resource usage or your host isnt complaining that you need to upgrade then VPS will most likely suit you just fine.

You can set it up in DSO with Mod_ruid2, install a caching solution such as xcache , Zend OPcache or Memcache, optimise SQL and in most cases providing your VPS is reasonable and has adequate RAM your site will be lightning.

If on the other hand your host is complaining about your site hitting the limits of a shared environment then you might need a more in-depth analysis as to whether it would be worth going to a VPS or just heading straight to a dedi to give your self growth room.

thanks for your responses, my concern was that my current shared hosting is sharing an IP range with hardcore porn (apparently ), I was made aware the other day when someone bought this to my attention, my site is static html so no database or anything hefty, I have paid endless amounts of money to SEO specialists and ranking has always been an issue, hence the adwords...

i have tried easyspace dedicated hosting and it was intolerable, it took four days to answer support tickets, three days to upload a SSL certificate and endless emails to try and upload a cpanel so i have decided to move away...

so would a SSD hosting be advantageous and what else would give me love from the big "G", i suppose a SSL certified site would be a good idea ?

Sounds like the SEO guy making excuses to me, bad neighbourhoods are not ideal but on most shared host setups from large hosts you will find questionable sites littering but Google isnt silly and understands a shared host when it see's one.

A combination of various aspects could show signs of possible places to improve , such as site speed, perceived page speed etc etc etc.

Its hard to advise properly with out seeing your site, if you would rather not post it in public then feel free to PM me and ill take a look and advise from there if required .

SSD will improve website performance if you are site has database. If you are looking for fully managed SSD dedicated server you can take a look at :

For premium quality, take a look at Rackspace. Robert Scoble is their evangelist, and you can follow him on Facebook.

I have shared hosting with Clook, and they are very good at support. Haven't tried their dedicated hosting though, but on the basis of their support for shared, I'd say worth a look.

I am not sure if my memory serves me well here, but I think I have often heard good reports about Vidahost. Couldn't say for sure if I'm thinking of the right company, but their website looks good and they might be worth further investigation.

I hope that helps. If you are interested in link building opportunities (if you have UK retail / telecoms sites) or I can be of further assistance, feel free to PM me.

Rgds

Vidahost and TSOhost part of the same group (Paragon); both highly regarded and worth considering.

We moved from Rackspace (not as premium service as their reputation allows for in our experience) to Vidahost and can only recommend them.

If resource usage is low then its better to save some money and get a VPS instead of Dedicated server.

You want to purchase dedicated server in UK or US?
