Just to let you know... if you're a DNSMadeEasy user, you might find that their communications (renewal notices etc.) get filtered to spam if you're using a Gmail account.

(We found out the hard way when some sites stopped working - there were 7 "your service is about to expire"-type warnings in the Spam folder, so they'd been extremely diligent about trying to get the message across!)

It's easy enough to fix: just set up a filter that matches "dnsmadeeasy" anywhere in the email, and specify the action "Never send to Spam" (generally, a good thing to do for any "essential" merchant). Alternatively, you can specify additional email accounts to receive notifications inside the DNSMadeEasy control panel.

The good thing is that they restored service instantly once we'd renewed our account (as quickly as I could switch to a different browser window and hit reload on the site that wasn't resolving) so even if you get caught out it's easy to fix.

Edwin, do you mind me asking is there a point at which running your own DNS becomes a major advantage ? If i'm just parking is there an advantage I might not know about to running your own ?

@dee I know you've asked Edwin, but from my point, I actually decided to use dnsmadeeasy so that I could separate out where my web traffic goes from my email traffic; which in this instance is Google G-Suite. Very happy I did, as I found web hosts often had spam filters on them that the user couldn't control, as they were host specific (on shared servers etc).

Back on subject, very good point @Edwin though I personally just have Gmail set to send every email through because again, I found their spam filter overly sensitive and quite often you don't know what you are missing until someone tells you.

If you're parking then use the parking company's DNS (many parking companies require it)

But as Ian pointed out, you'll need to provide some kind of DNS if you want to do something with the domain AND have email addresses under it too.

Re. Gmail spam filtering, it's tempting to turn the filter off, but then I look at the 80-100 spam messages a day in there and the temptation quickly fades!
