Domain name sportsdirect.co.uk has been sold for £120,000. I had pleasure to act as agent to the seller. There was lengthy negotiations about the price, rights and process but all worked out. Many thanks to all parties involved.

My experience extends to over 18 years and thousands of deals in domain name space. I offer hands on services to buyers, sellers and holders of domains, rights and IP.

edit. Since posting this I have received quite few request to sell domains. I just like to explain that normally I do not go looking for buyers. I can be contracted to approach nominated potential buyer, negotiate the price and other details.

No risk of DRS with this name?

Edit: LMAO I guess the joke is on me.

Thank you

There is risk of DRS for any domain, that risk has to be managed. In this particular case domain was registered before company with “possibly similar” name started trading. Please understand that DRS is not about who has trademark, it’s all about if domain name registration abusive or not . I have won DRS case of shoeexpress.co.uk even when complainant had registered trademark for last couple decades.
I cannot be sure, but I suspect that buyer of sportsdirect.co.uk is linked to sportsdirect.com

Fabulous sale - congratulations!

Also, found your thoughts on DRS interesting.

Will wait to see where this domain resolves to.

I'm impressed, well done. What was the starting point? ;)

I believe the buyer is a financial consultant associated with Newcastle United, which in turn is owned by Mike Ashley, so in a round about way, has been acquired for Sports Direct.

Hope so anyway, it would be a brave move to profit from the brand name.

@ Sean - it can not be 2010 as they have used the .com well before that

@ ian-b I am sure they have considered DRS but because my link to domain I suspect they knew that I will not make it easy for them as i have history in such battles. They used IP lawyer from continent (possible disguise) to do the work. I think the lawyer read things about me even on this forum. Essentially they did not have good case for DRS. If they would have failed with DRS they would end up in worst situation. They also could have tried other things to get the domain but everything comes with the risk, takes time and can be costly. They have done the right thing doing this deal.
Anyone in similar situation I wound say - think what you say because before deal is finished buyer can back out and you will be exposed.

Yet again, in this case as many other it came as no surprise to me that IP lawyer do understand what is the legal rights and contract law BUT do not understand domain names and technical things. In this case the contract was drawn the way that payment would have been released from escrow to seller of domain after 5 days of transfer initiation email from Nominet and change of whois to whoever. That domain could have been transferred with another initiated transfer to another party (even with same fake name as a buyers, but without control to buyer) and escrow provider would have been bound by contract to release the payment.

I well knew about this but we do not have intention of foul play. I do not think that matters of domain names especially when it come of history, forensics for DRS, court cases and asset acquisition so on, should be left only to IP lawyers. I think such work at the very least should be overlooked by someone with experience in this field.

With all the crime like phishing and so on internet, I think that this ( I name it as) Fake Buyer Transfer (FBT) potentially can be used for scams by doggy operators in different ways by buyers and sellers even with escrow involved. The one who losses the domain or payment would have to prove the scam, how many would succeed is anyone's guess. I wonder how Nominet would be able to help with FBT. I believe this subject is worth the tread on the forum on its own.

It will come as no surprise then to see that it now resolves to their .com address.
