Hi people.

Sorry if these questions have been asked before, i've been having a read around on the forums for a few hours and still aren't sure on the best route for me to take.

Im currently looking to purchase two domains which have expired around a month ago, however I'm reading all kinds of conflicting info through google about how i should go about it.

They aren't domains which will be in high demand (at least i hope), I'm just wanting them to try kick start some projects which I've been contemplating for a while now.

Should I employ the services of a drop catcher or a domain backdoor service? i should probably mention there both .com domains.

One of the domains displays a godaddy page with expiry notice, would it best to place back orders with the registrars the domain is linked to.

Apologies if I'm miss understanding the process or anything, I'm going to do a lot more reading over the coming days, flicking through the threads here has really intrigued me.

Thanks for the help.

Please be specific what are you going to do with domains? Either Adsense, product sales or for which purpose? If the dropped domain has the keyword or if you believe you can get more traffic for the site with your work, then you can go with it. Normally people will go for expired domains as it give some pleasure for them.

I'm not up to scratch on AdSense or any of those ways of earning money yet. I'd be using one domain to try some retail sales on and another to host a sports news blog.

Thanks

Before it drops it should be available at godaddy auctions, then the closeouts.

Could you check the whois with the registry and post the results here ?

You can omit the actual domains.

Depending on the registrar and how far the domains are past renewal there may be arrangements to grab them before they drop.

Ah no :( the one which i really wanted looks like its been renewed :( even thought this is still displayed on the domain 'NOTICE: This domain name expired on 11/14/2011 and is pending renewal or deletion.'

Registrar: GODADDY.COM, INC.
Whois Server: whois.godaddy.com
Referral URL: http://registrar.godaddy.com
Name Server: NS57.DOMAINCONTROL.COM
Name Server: NS58.DOMAINCONTROL.COM
Status: clientDeleteProhibited
Status: clientRenewProhibited
Status: clientTransferProhibited
Status: clientUpdateProhibited
Updated Date: 15-nov-2011
Creation Date: 14-nov-2010
Expiration Date: 14-nov-2012

Back to the drawing board.

If you see 2012 in the registry whois that is normal. However the registrar whois should say 2011. Then the name is still in expired status. It's because the domain is provisionally renewed with the registry (otherwise it would already be in redemption...)
I assume it's with Network Solutions.
This is where you can backorder the domain: www.namejet.com
Check if there is a scheduled release date for that domain.

I guess it might show up at Godaddy auctions around 13 December. You still have time.
Keep looking here: https://auctions.godaddy.com/

Y want to join the resurrection men? Status: pending delete is the big give-away.

Look for the domain on expired-domains-list.com . If it is actually going to drop, it usually falls 37 days after the date listed, somewhere around teatime (5-8pm) for a com or net. Other thingys like org or info fall in the wee sma hoors of the morning.

You can catch them - but don't try to use the bulk checkers of US registrars, like GoDaddy, NameCheap or Dynadot. They have all been "neutered" to give the in-house catchers a chance. The single domain search tells the truth, the multiple checker lies - Dynadot used to be honest but lately they seem to have gone over to the majority view, Moniker wants you to sign in before using the bulk checker but to my mind that's another red herring. And if you try to use a less reputable US registrar, they might be on the "Old Game" where, if you search, they "taste" the domain for four days, and you have to go back to that registrar to reg the domain.

Pick out a no-hope domain that nobody will be after, in the same clutch of domains - something like FloridaClitTicklersAndStormDoorRepair.com (don't laugh, somebody regged that once). Keep trying that domain until it shows as available, on the single domain search of the registrar of your choice.

When it shows as available, go back and try for the domain you REALLY want as fast as possible.

LOL I'm feeling generous today ...

Thanks for your reply crabfoot.

Can i just ask, how do you determine a domain which is in the same clutch as the one your wanting to acquire. Would that just be a domain which expired on the same date?

When a domain still hasn’t dropped after 70 days and has a status of pending delete still does that mean its probably been registered already?

Again thanks for your help,

Michael
