I caught a domain with some solid pagerank, in an area im not really into. it would be hard to monetize so I doubt I would get much for it.

so im thinking of the easy option and using it to 301 to another site. but I dont have any that are on-topic.

worth doing?

I did one.

I reg'd http://www.hydro-chem.co.uk because i thought it was in DMOZ, but i wasn't DOH. It was still stored in a dmoz results page but not in a category.

Anyway,

I did a 301, it stuck, then dropped and then went back.

As you can see, when you google hydrochem the site it 301's to is showing in the serps even without the words hyro chem on the page.

So my conclusion is that yes, it all still works fine.

I would think it better practice, though, to set up a site for the domain, build a few links and then 301 it for optimum seo value.
