I dont understand whats going on with a .com i'm watching
Status: redemptionPeriod
Updated Date: 31-aug-2009
Expiration Date: 21-jul-2009
I thought the Redemption Period was for 30 days after the renewal lapsed, then it goes into Pending Delete For 5 working days

Obviously this domain has gone way past this, is there anything I can do about it? When should I expect the domain to be available?

Thanks, RichieM

PS Sorry to ask about a .com but the other "domainng" forum I'm with appears to of died

I've found it can take upto 90 days from the expiry date due to grace periods, etc, although it may also be dependent on the registrar's terms.

I have found in the past that a lot of the domains that go into delete end up on some of the bigger sites like pool.com or snapnames or namejet so it's worth looking on there/bidding for it as if no-one else wants it you could get it for about $30.

Thanks guys, I looked on pool.com but that said "unknown" :-/
I'm not too bothered about it, so I might just wait to see if it goes poublic (so I can get it for the normal registration price).

Any .com worth catching never drops.
The big catchers all have agreements with other smaller registrars etc. The .com game is just nonsense, I was in it for years, but got sick of the "clique" nature of the industry. It's not what you know it's who you know in .com game. If you want a dropping .com worth about $100 be prepared to pay 10x that to secure it.

Thanks for this, i was thinking of getting into the .com catching wont bother wasting my time now!

There's also a snidey trick that .com registrars can play = "a legitimate business strategy within the rules".

they can catch a name and hold it for 4 days without paying. Then they can drop it, and catch it again. In practice, they can hang on to a name without actually registering it for the time it take to find a buyer.

Thats a good thing to know..! In other words most registrars, no doubt they also visit forums like this to try to keep one step ahead of us 'freelancers', they also employ even more sneaky tactics in this cut-throat industry! What a bunch of BumFaces!

How do you change the rules..? :???:

Had to catch a .com recently...

Domain becomes available after 'pending delete' period.

Domain Locking - Pending Delete

Also - as said, Go Daddy and Snap names gobble them up on drop... however some still slip through!

There's an excellent little forum to go to when catching .coms.. lists them as they com through.

GoDrops.com - The World's Only Live Domain Name Drop!

The domain I wanted dropped at 8.34pm our time....

Good luck!
