Following a bus earlier which had an advert on the back for Childcare from the CO-OP. What caught my eye was that they were using a .coop domain name, what really surprised me was the full URL

www.thecooperativechildcare.coop

Why go to the bother of getting you own TLD based on your company name only then to use a website address which:-

1. Repeats your company name in full in the rest of the URL
2. Is too long
3. Prone to typos

Why not just use childcare.coop ??

Wonder if they'd be intersted in thecooperativechildcarebuyonegetonefree.org.uk

Mark.

My god, that is really stupid of them isn't it?

Don't think that it's even a good idea for CO-OP since some people might try using .co-op or .co.op etc. But using that massive domain name makes it a million times worse.

lol unbelievable... you should contact them and link them to this thread.

You would think someone there would be smart enough when talking about a domain name to suggest just childcare.coop

I'm going to steal this BTW and raise it on another forum because it's pretty ridiculous, hope you don't mind.

lol you know the really daft thing? they'll be getting so many visitors through people laughing at them for using such a stupid name, they'll actually think it is working... and start another...:D

I really should be doing some college work, but instead I decided to write a bit about this because it's quite crazy. Can read it here if you want - Silly mistake or not?

I thought .coop was one of these whacky ones like .aero/.museum/.pro and various ?

suppose it'll be ok for selling chicken & pigeons!

  I thought a coop was where you kept chickens! Now child.coop doesn't sound very child-friendly!  That must be why they opted for thecooperativechildcare.coop! Phew ... sweating just typing the name out!

You have to admit this is one of the most pointless TLDs.

A TLD just for coop when .org or cctld would do the trick

And there are quite many other companies shooting themselves in the foot by advertising URLs that are not memorable.
