Hi all

I have been fishing around the idea of domaining for a while and when I decided to start I realised that what I bought were useless. I am JUST getting a hang of it - I think.

Hope to share my experience here and to learn from others.

You can buy what you consider to be rubbish - but then, a posting here can give you an idea how to develop the site, and a developed site which is making money can always be sold.

For myself, I've usually got an idea, even if my own sites are a heap of rubbish that look like half-finished school projects.

Put the names up - it's not as if anyone can nick the ideas! - and you might get some suggestions. Then you have to develop them ...

snooze,

everyone's been there for the most part. if that didn't happen to them right away, it happened to them later. the domaining bug hits everyone. but like crabfoot says, all is not lost, you can still turn it into something. theres lots of sites out there which look like write off's but people turn them around into something. so instead of just learning the lesson not to buy useless names, but learn how to make money off of useless names =). because lots of people are doing exactly that

Thanks for your feedback.

I will definitely revisit my stock and see what I can do with them. I was waiting for them to to expire and move on.

I like that one (ppi) Crabfoot.

That ppi domain is deliberately crummy, because it is intended as a public service to expose the underhand tactics of the government, not to make money (although it is paying for itself).

They let the info creep out through that site and, apart from two poky little paragraphs in two broadsheets, it hardly got noticed.

Strangely, there is a report on that gov site from the 50s which is of great historic interest to some people. Try to access it, and it is unavailable, or you get one small part. It all goes back to Mr Blur ...
