Length of registrations

Why dont Nominet change rules on the length of registration and introduce variable length from 6 months to 10 years ?. That way would generate more business as more people took advantage of "test" period.

10 years is fine however I would favour 'check in' periods every two years.

This would prevent the domain owner or contact in a company going awol after such a period of time.

Hmm, yes but would depend on what the penalty was for not checking in as purpose of 10 years would be so you could kinda forget about domain for that time .

There is a policy in place that was agreed in March 2005. It would seem that the PAB have committed to return to the issue of 10 year registration periods sometime next spring. With a bit of luck the earlier policy will have been actioned by then

"The PAB, having considered the report of the Registration Periods Working Group, resolved to recommend that the Board consider the additional implementation of single year registrations and the synchronisation of multiple registrations to a common renewal date through shorter registration periods. The PAB resolved to recommend that the Board do not implement registration periods longer than two years for the time being, but resolved to reconsider the issue in approximately two years' time."

Well lets hope they dont prevaricate for ever. Cannot understand why they are taking so long to bring it in to being.
