Anbody getting these emails from linkstar media? They start

"I work for Linkstar Media, a leading broker of online advertising, dealing with many thousands of independent webmasters worldwide. We currently have a client in the finance industry for whom we are looking to acquire advertising from quality websites. "

I'm getting a few each day for different sites. Their website isn't up properly but they are apparently offering to buy links?

Anybody know more about them?

Thanks
Stephen.

Yes, I've been getting loads of these too, both from linkstar.co.uk and linkstarmedia.co.uk

They never respond to my emails so I did a quick search and found reports of them being scammers. They apparently get you to add links before paying, but then keep on saying the link is not right and never pay up.

Hi Guys,

I work for Linkstar Media and noticed your discussion.

Linkstar Media acquires ad space from small to medium sized websites on behalf of blue chip clients. We've found that text based advertising gets 17% more clickthroughs than banners, due to the growing issue of "banner blindness". We also find that spreading a brand or product over thousands of smaller sites can generate a much greater ROI than 1 or 2 big sites.

Sorry if you've received multiple emails, our system is meant to filter out duplicates before being passed onto our team for initial contact. Unfortunately we're unable to filter out cases where webmasters have a different email address for each of their websites. I also apologise if responses have been delayed or missed, we've been having issues with our mail servers and are in the process of transferring onto new ones.

With regards to "not paying up", we pay all our suppliers promptly. The blog post you found was written by someone who did not implement the ad correctly. We've tried to help them, although did not get any response.

Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions or to speak privately.

Many Thanks,

Stephen

There are grammatical/spelling errors in every one of those bios. Not very professional.

I have sold them links on two sites and both times paid up very fast.
I did half expect the paypal to be reversed as it did scream scam at first but took a chance (I didnt have a lot to loose) and it all went well.
Only issue is i didnt really price the second one well considering how much extra traffic I have on that site now compair to when i sold the link (priced for 12 months).

Just to say im not affiliated with them in any way other than selling these and if an admin wants to see the two sites I can PM the URL.

I love Linkstar's reply to dodgy whois information (registrations in the names of sci-fi characters!) :

We register hundreds of domains for branding and future services. We are also involved in trading these domains or establishing affiliate and advertising sites on them. In the cut-throat world of domaining, we prefer not to encourage speculation by advertising our recent acquisitions to the market. In the case of these domains, we simply have not managed to change the registrant details as yet.

Hundreds of domains, that usually means spam to me but you are in the right place to trade - what names do you have for sale/trade? :)

As for the 'cut throat world of domaining' , I dont know any domainers who go to such lengths :)

I must have replied to 15 emails I received from them indicating I might be interested and not one follow up reply. Not exactly confidence inspiring....

I think that's a great shame because in acceding to a request from Stephen Hill (or is it Stephen Williams? - he's used two different names when in his communications with me)

Nothing like forgetting your surname to instill confidence .... ;)

I have received a few such requests recently from linkstar and other companies. Why do you advise to stay away? Surely if they don't pay as promised i can just take the ad off my site?

Well I tested them anyway and they paid - within about an hour actually. So much for the scam. :D
